When I think of posters, my mind usually conjurs up images of teen heart throbs pasted on the walls of a tween's room. After a couple minutes on the Naxart website, I'm starting to rethink the whole thing. Naxart has wonderful graphic design posters, art and photography for incredibly reasonable prices. Framed posters run between $25 and $100 depending on the size.

Looks like Ikea is quick to listen to feedback on their iPhone app. It has been out for just over two months, and they just updated it to include searching, bookmarking and a color coded contents page. US residents can get their hopes up at the mention of it now being rolled out to other countries. Full press release after the jump.
IKEA THANKS FANS FOR IPHONE APP DEVELOPMENT
Home furnishings company, IKEA today announced a series of new developments to their 2010 Catalogue iPhone app, following customer feedback provided at launch. IKEA has redeveloped the app over just two months, after inviting fans who had downloaded the app from the Apple iTunes Store to suggest ways the app could be improved via twitter, a phone hotline, email and on the App Store.
The latest version of the catalogue app, now features the most requested functionality, including:
- search function enabling customers to select products using keywords
- bookmarking, helping customers to save pages
- contents page, a colour coded index with links to main sections
Other updates IKEA is currently investigating based on user feedback include: detailed product information on-demand, functionality to find your nearest store, information about what is in stock in your local store.
Jason Baker, IKEA UK and Ireland Marketing Project Manager said:
“We’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who downloaded, emailed, phoned and tweeted us their thoughts. Based on the success of this initiative, and fitting with IKEA’s own philosophy, we will continue listening to our customers and developing our products in line with their feedback.”
Following on from the success of the app in the UK with over 300,000 downloads in the first month, it will now be rolled out for other countries IKEA catalogues.
Always on the lookout for practical ways to help customers with their daily routine, IKEA is still open to hearing from ways to improve the mobile version of the catalogue.
The updated IKEA Catalogue 2010 UK edition is available as a free download from the Apple iTunes Store from 8 April 2010.

Yes, that's the full name. Intense, right? About as intense as those angles! I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love a good mortar and pestle! This stoneware version from Alessi is definitely breaking the mold with its very angular presence. While I appreciate the fresh approach, I have to wonder if this would be very enjoyable to actually use. A case of form impeding function, perhaps? Hmm..
Bring your fresh herbs right into the kitchen with this herb pot by Normann Copenhagen. The herb stand includes two small pots suspended by a 10" tall stand. It even includes the scissors. All you need now is a green thumb and a little patience.
If this watch was any more minimal, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't exist.
About: The hands are represented by 2 points. Somewhat recalling the image of the solar system, the biggest dot represents the hour and the smallest dot represents the minutes. The dot in the center remains fixed. Black stainless steel case, black genuine leather strap, 3 ATM water resistance, mineral glass, and battery operated.
I've got to give a shout out to my buddy Chris Gleason who just released yet another fantastic DIY cabinetry book. This one is all about kitchen makeovers. If you have ever even considered building a kitchen from scratch I highly encourage you to check this book out. Chris manages to make things look easy, and provides clear instructions and illustrations.
You may remember how I was looking for that perfect, modern sectional last Fall. We temporarily gave up our search, but I think I might have just found The One in BoConcept's new Milos sofa. I love the shape and you've got to admit it looks pretty dang comfy. Like most of BoConcept's upholstered furniture, the Milos is available in a ton of fabric options, sizes, and configurations. With prices starting at $1099, this new sofa sounds like a steal. I'm a little wary, though, as I've heard some negative things about BoConcept over the years. Unfortunately, they don't have a store close enough for me to investigate for myself. That's where you, dear readers, come in! What has your experience been with BoConcept? How is the quality? Please share your thoughts!
There are a lot of cheap sofa's out there. Honestly I've become skeptical of any sofa that is under $1,000, but I really want to believe that this Chelsea 3 seat sofa is different. Why, because it looks amazing for a sofa that only costs $649! The tufted upholstery is a nice tip of the hat to MCM bauhaus inspired furniture, but I imagine it would be just as at home in a new contemporary modern home. Does anyone know about the quality of this one?
What a fun way to display your favorite tomes and show off great cover design! Made from molded acrylic, Slim Shelves are available in two sizes, the smaller holding 4-6 books and the larger holding 10-12. I love the clean, modern look and the playful illusion. Custom colors are also available, if you're fancy like that.
I have been in love with the Emeco Navy chair ever since I found 6 of them for an amazing price locally. We have them at our kitchen table and think they are fantastic. That's why I was so excited to hear about the new 111 Navy Chairs from Emeco. Made of 111 recycled plastic Coke bottles they look to be just as durable as their aluminum counterparts, but they are now available in an array of colors! No idea on pricing yet, but the rumor is that they will be about half the price of the originals. More details will surface at the worldwide launch in Milan next week.
Maybe it's the fact that I just watched a documentary about small town America, so thoughts of farming communities are swirling in my head, but I really love these Aerial Paintings by Polymorphia aka Crystal Jackson. Fields and orchards transform into nothing more than geometric shapes and swathes of color. Or, as Crystal puts it "things are so simple from afar", a statement that beautifully sums up the allure of these small, canvas paintings.
Oh man. New favorite artist alert! Kristina Sostarko aka Inaluxe has a wonderful, retro style that I have a hard time not loving. Flora, fauna, and funky shapes? Yes please. And those colors! Look at those colors! They're perfect. You can get your hands on Kristina's work through her Etsy shop, where she sells prints, stationery, and original works at prices anyone would love. Check out her blog, too, for current works, updates, and inspiration!
This documentary is part of the PBS American Masters series. It first premiered on March 31st. There are several other air dates coming up, or you can watch the full documentary online until June 30th.

OK, this lamp is just nutty! Individual cubes connect together and turn on with a simple twist. Modular lighting that lets you design your own lamp is A-Okay in my book! Sold as a set of 4, but multiples would certainly be stunning! LEDs provide energy efficient illumination. Check out the sweet demo video below to see it in action!
We love creative clock concepts here at GRM, and it's always nice to see something that hasn't been tried before. While the little time clock design does have some inherent flaws (see comments at core77) we still think it's a nifty idea.
Simple concept, perfect price point - what's not to love?
About:
Named after the triangle (V) shaped leg, V.STAND is a multi-purpose side table that holds small objects such as plants, books, clock, phone, speakers etc. It features a sturdy and stable design that can be used indoors and outdoors as a side table, adding a colorful accent with a friendly character to the environment.
Constructed with corrugated plastic using a folding technique, it weights less than one pound and can hold up to 75lbs without damaging the tips of the legs. When V.STANDS are not in use, it can stack vertically to save space.
We love DIY projects here at Grassrootsmodern. When successful they usually mean high style for a low price. Such is the case with the weekend art project featured on The New Domestic. Inspired by the color field paintings they designed their 60" x 36" canvas in Illustrator first. Once they were settled on the colors and the basic design, all it took was a quick trip to the paint store, and a little skill with the painters tape. The end result turned out great!
The Raw Mirror by Stanley Ruiz is a great example of that "rustic modern" trend I mentioned before. Pushing away a highly polished, sterile aesthetic in favor of something more natural and imperfect, the Raw Mirror is made of birch plywood and leather. It feels a bit overpriced at $189 (especially for it's small size: 11"x11" or 24" long with the strap), but it's pretty nonetheless. Perhaps with the right tools and skills, you could attempt something similar.
