I've been moving GRM over to a new server today and it's been sort of a bumpy ride. Kinda makes me want to go home and curl up in a blanket and take a nap. Specifically this brilliant blanket by Barbara Perrino.

It seems like I have been featuring a lot of great handmade furniture coming out of Colorado recently. The most recent to catch my eye is David Rasmussen Design. Based out of Carbondale, Colorado David has an interesting mix of more traditional fine woodworking pieces like the Treehouse Stools shown above, to very modern Danish inspired pieces like the Curve A Linear chair and side table.
I love decorated packaging tape. It seems like such a fun and easy way to spice up just about anything that needs a little tapping. This original design by UK designer Joanna Rutter is absolutely fantastic. It has a great vintage + scandinavian feel to it. If you love it, you better snatch it up quick as this is the last roll from this design series.
I was discussing with a friend the other day how Fab.com conitinues to absolutely kill the competition discount online sites. They still have hands down the best curated selection of goodies for the home out there. Point in case is todays collection of fantastic prints by the talented Becky Hui Chan. I'm especially a fan of the Geometric Shapes print shown above, and at only $17, it's practically irresistible. If you are already a Fab.com member, you know what to do, if you haven't joined yet, get sign up now!
Wood and felt for the win (again)! Designer Eric Janssen's stackable beech coasters will add a nice pop of color while protecting that precious coffee or side table of yours. Kind of a win-win, don't you think?
I've been really into wooden spoons lately, I've even ventured into making my own set (more on that later). I'm particularly interested in ones that are lacquered like these ones. This handmade set of spoons from Kyoto Japan is an absolute steal at $35.
Unison just launched a new collection of bedding for babies and kids and we couldn't be more in love! The Sailor and Regatta duvet/sheet combo is an instant favorite in that bright, cheery yellow. Check out the full line right here and let us know what you think!
If you know me, you know I like simple solutions to complex problems. The problem I have is a desk full of clutter. As we speak the only two bare spots on my desk are being occupied by my coffee, and my breakfast. Solution? Realistically the answer is to quit being lazy and clean my desk up, but I'd like to think that this Up Filer, a vertical wall-mounted filing system from Westerville Design, would help. It's so simple that it's hard to believe that this solution hasn't existed before. I also like that the Up Filer is made of wood and chrome instead of plastic like so many other office organizers.
This geodesic-shaped habitat is made of superior grade durable recycled cardboard and features two points of entry/egress as well as an interior scratch deck for clawing and nesting. It's generously proportioned, easy to assemble, and stackable with integrated tab connections. Mostly though, I just like the product photo of the cat on top of the stack. It may even warrant a caption contest...
Jane Foster may live in the UK, but she knows a thing or two about Scandinavian design. She has an amazing collection of original art work on her etsy shop, as well as some delightful dolls and textiles that she makes with vintage fabrics. I've even made a mental bookmark to check out her Christmas stockings after Thanksgiving. They are pretty amazing.
Lots more photos after the jump, or head straight to her Etsy shop, or website http://www.janefoster.co.uk/
Ben Kafton is a local artist that I have been following for some time. I first saw his work at Craft Lake City last year and I really love his architectural style. He sent me a photo this week of some of his recent work, as well as a link to his Etsy shop where he has some prints for sale. More after the jump.
Nordic Art House is an online art gallery that exclusively sells art prints and photographs from Swedish artists. I'm particularly smitten by their collection of limited edition Giclée prints that they have available. Pricing seems very reasonable starting as low as $74. As an added bonus, Nordic Art House was kind enough to extend a 30% VIP discount for all Grassrootsmodern readers until the end of the month. Just put in the code GRM30 at checkout. Natta (Norwegian slang for 'good night') is a bedside table with an integrated light hidden in the back. When turned on, the light reflects off the wall behind it, filling the room with soft, diffused light. Pretty brilliant I say! Available in two styles: a simple tabletop or a single drawer unit. Made of birch plywood.
Psst. Hey you. Can I tell you a secret? These towels are AMAZING, and I'm not just talking about the way they look.
At first glance I thought it was a nice scandinavian throw, but a quick read reveals it's actually a traditional Turkish Peshtemal, which is a bath towel. I've actually had a chance to use one of these before, and I can attest that the first time was life changing. Did I mention what a classy alternative these are to a traditional bath towel?

I came across these fantastic danish cast iron skillets and pans on Etsy today and I'm seriously tempted to pick up all three of them. Made by Copco they are all cast iron with white enamel, and are sure to last for years and years to come. A quick google search turned up the fact that Copco is still around, but unfortunately it doesn't look like they are doing enamel cookware anymore. Priced between $40 and $68 each, these vintage pieces seem like a screaming deal to me.
Anyone disagree?

We posted about Best Made's designer axes a while back, but it seems they've been hard at work expanding their line to include all kinds of items, from extension cords and now first aid kits! They claim this kit was specifically designed for "woodsmen and loggers", but we're pretty sure any appreciator of good design will love it. It's an indispensable, life-saving tool that'll treat your wounds just as well as it treats your perfectly-planned decor! What more could you want?
I keep seeing these painted antlers from Cassandra Smith and I love each one more than the last one. Apparently I'm not the only one either, as it seems her Etsy shop is almost always out of stock.
About Cassandra:
Cassandra Smith is an artist and freelance curator working in Milwaukee, WI. She is also the co-owner and editor of Fine Line Magazine, a quarterly, international fine arts publication. In 2006, she graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design with a degree in sculpture.
Ok, maybe not new as much as new to me.
I was clicking through page after page of uninspiring stools at More Bar Stools dot Com looking for something cheap and decent today. While I was largely unsuccessful except for perhaps this and this, I did stumble across an Offi stool, which reminded me to check in with one of my old favorite companies. Seems like they have been busy, and have some new to me pieces that they released earlier this spring. The Big Rib, the Trundle Desk, and the Nester Boxes are all designed by Eric Pfeiffer and are available online at your favorite retailer.
Checking out these new posters for Design Philadelphia, I could help but feel a little nostalgic for last year's event (blogged here and here). It looks like the 6th year of this design celebration is in good hands, though, with the guys at Nom Now. The collective includes talented designers Mike Smith, Matt Goold, Nick Kulick, and Mike Smyjewski, who were tasked with creating this year's promo posters. I'd say they did a pretty stellar job! Check out the complete series right here.
