I have featured items from Motif Modern Living before. Their slogan is "Modern Style, Modest Price" and I have to admit that they have a pretty good selection of affordable modern housewares that I haven't seen elsewhere. Take for example this Single Flower Duvet and Sham. For only $79 you can get a queen sized duvet cover and two pillow shams. That's a great price! They are made of 210 thread count 100% cotton. My only wish is that they had different colors or patterns at that same price. I'm not quite sure I could cover my entire bed in mustard yellow. Available from Motif Modern Living for $79.

We did not find out ahead of time the sex of our baby, but wanted to have the room mostly completed before the birth. We wanted a simple, modern baby room that complimented the rest of our home. I have always loved EQ3. Besides Ikea, they are one of the few "modern" companies that consistently make good looking stuff at a good price. This Hexagon Duvet set is a great example. While the 210 thread count is not the greatest, the design is nice, and you can get a queen sized duvet and two shams for $90. The only thing that I never understood is why it seems that there is no one selling EQ3 online. Anyone have any good leads? In Utah, make sure you check out Modern Material and Design. They carry almost exclusively EQ3 products.

I may have mentioned it before, but my wife and I have been looking for a duvet for a while now. We have been using a off white one that we got from Ikea before we were married, and it's starting to look a little blah. There are of course plenty of duvets out there that we love, just not a whole lot of affordable modern duvets. If you are faced with the same dilemma, check out the Circle in Square Duvet that is on clearance over at Room and Board. Not only is it pretty sweet, but it is only $49! Thats the best deal I think I have ever seen. They also have some sweet sheets on sale for $18 per sheet too. Available from Room and Board for $49.

Ikea and Shycast have teamed up to have a contest about making your bed. Applicants can submit a video under five minutes that shows a creative or different way that they make their bed. The grand prize is a $5,000 gift certificate to Ikea. As far as I can tell, videos are rated by the public, and the one with the most votes wins the grand prize. I was pretty surprised by just how lame the top three videos were. It seems like anyone with a little creativity and a video camera could easily take the lead.

My wife and I were dreaming about our addition last night, and looking through all the catalogues that have been piling up around our house lately. We got to The Company Store catalogue, and we were both impressed with the Hexagon Sheets. 250 thread count and 100% combed cotton means that they are decent quality, at least way better than the $8 sheets we bought at Ikea when we first got married. The company store sells the fitted and flat sheets individual which can be a nice option. As for colors, I love them all, but I am particularly drawn to the orange and blue.

My wife and I have been planning to get a new duvet for our down comforter for a long time now as our old beige one from Ikea is starting to look pretty blah. I am always on the look out for good affordable modern duvets. Today I was over at shelterrific and I came across a post about this West Elm Mod Pod quilt that is now on sale. I have to admit, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for quilts. This one may be a little over the top for my taste. One of those purchases that in 3 years you look at it and think "What was I thinking". It may not be timeless, but it is good looking and on sale.

It's that time of year when all the stores try and get rid of their old stock and get ready for all the new goodies that are coming. If you haven't already checked out the sale that they are having at Design Public, get on over there. They have some good deals on bedding, including most of the old Dwell line that has been discontinued. So if you have been wanting a some nice Dwell threads, here is your chance. I happen to be a sucker for this orange and cream duvet on sale for $132. I might have to actually spring for it before it's too late.

I have always loved the whole Dwell line up, although I don't have any of their stuff. Their prices seem to be very reasonable considering the quality you are getting, and the design is fabulous. My wife was especially excited when they introduced their Dwell Baby line, even though we don't have kids. So for those fans of the baby line, you're in luck. It appears as if they have some great new stuff coming out soon. Over at Design Public they have listed on their website a new Dwell Baby burp and bib set. The quality is great as usual (210 thread count egyptian cotton) and it is available in several different colors/patterns. I figured that it would be outrageously priced, but was pleasantly surprised by its meager price tag. Only $35. Looks like it's pre-order only. Should ship in late Dec, just in time for Christmas.

So, I got an email from West Elm today, and while I kinda do like the look of their new Diamond Jacquard duvet cover and shams it was their sale items that got me excited. For those of you looking to completely redo your bedrooms on a budget, pay attention. This could be your ticket.

First off, if its an inexpensive platform bed you are looking for make sure you check out west elms low platform bed. You could get a full for $269 or a queen for $279. Be warned though, there have been some horror stories over at Apartment Therapy about the lack of quality. Seems to me that if you like the way they look, its almost a no brainer for the price. Just don't get too rowdy.

So, you don't want to risk it with the bed yet, but you could spring for some new sheets? Check out the Solid Color sheet sets. They come in aloe, indigo, or cloud. My personal favorite is the aloe. They are 200 thread count mercerized cotton. Each set set includes flat/fitted sheets and two cases (one case with the twin). A full sized set is only $59, queen $69, and king $69.

Next, I have always been a fan of nesting tables, although I don't own any yet. West elms Modular Nesting Tables are a steal for only $79. You get three tables and a counless number ways to arrange them for a very good price. It seems like nesting table are one of those items that just never go out of style too.

Last but not least, if you are one of those unfortunate people like me that have an old futon couch sitting around because it is all you can afford, do yourself a favor. Throw it away! Ok, that may not be an option unless you want to sit on the floor. In any case, at least treat yourself to a new cover for it. Their is a nice Kiwi Brushed Poly futon cover for only $54. I personally love the color, and it might be just what you need to get you through another year or two with your old futon.
