Color Story Credenza

color story credenza post 27I love a good credenza as much as the next guy, but I have a confession to make. Too many credenzas look exactly the same to me, they lack creativity. That's where LAPEL comes in. In a collaboration between Post 27 and Stone Blitzer, LAPEL has produced this Color Story credenza. It starts out like all good credenzas do, walnut veneer, good clean MCM lines, but then it adds a refreshing pop of color with the 4 lacquered doors. Amazing right?

Adam Hogsett :: Bottle Opener

adam hogsett bottle openerI have a lot of little obsessions in life, and bottle openers are definitely one of them. For some reason I am always looking for just the right one. I'm really liking the raw look of these bottle openers made by Adam Hogsett of 510 design and fabrication. Each one is manually machined from cold formed steel and hand stamped with the production number. The finish is a darkened steel with a thin coat of wax to prevent any rusting. The whole thing is only 3" long, so it's not too bulky, but I'm sure it has a very satisfying heft to it.

Joseph Walsh Furniture

prism round tableMy friend on Facebook recently brought the work of Joseph Walsh to my attention. Much of his work is very organic and perhaps a bit too ornate looking for my taste, but the repeating geometric patterns of this Prism Round dining table appealed to my cold hard modernist heart. Not only is the design absolutely gorgeous, I have a huge amount of respect for the skill that went into pulling those joints off. I've recently been working on a project that has a similar leg design, and I can tell you it's not easy.

David Rasmussen Design

treehouse stool

curve a linear side tableIt seems like I have been featuring a lot of great handmade furniture coming out of Colorado recently.  The most recent to catch my eye is David Rasmussen Design. Based out of Carbondale, Colorado David has an interesting mix of more traditional fine woodworking pieces like the Treehouse Stools shown above, to very modern Danish inspired pieces like the Curve A Linear chair and side table.

Noon Studio :: Steel Stool

steel stool prototype

NewImagePure genius. Simple genius that is. Noon studio has a fantastic stool prototype that can also double as a modular shelving unit. What get's me the most about the design though is the simplicity of the construction and the materials. Steel and oak held together with some simple joinery and tension.

Lot's more photo's after the jump. Make sure you check out the closeup of where the wood and steel meet. Lovely.

Drona Wine Rack

drona wine rackI love wine, and I love walnut, so it goes without saying that I would love to store my wine in a walnut wine rack. The Drona wine rack made by Jonathan Malphrus of Steric Design add some interesting geometry and nice contemporary craftsmanship to the typical wine rack. This Drona has a series of large hexagons connected by salvaged cherry joinery. It looks fantastic, and holds an impressive 35 bottles. There is a smaller version that only holds 5 bottles if that's more your thing.

Brotzeit

NewImageNewImageBrotzeit. Airline food re-imagined...

We at Postlerferguson developed the “Brotzeit” design proposal that is aimed to inspire decision makers in the airline industry to rethink their approach on how to deliver and serve meals to their customers and what kinds of products are being selected.

All foods can be supplied by local specialist manufacturers to the airline and packed into the Brotzeit boxes of each passenger. Every culture has a rich “on the go” cuisine of pre-prepared dishes, fresh produce, salads, pickles, conserves or raw foods. These foods are made for travelling and we believe future airlines should take advantage of this healthy and divers food culture – it`s Brotzeit!

Modestwork

NewImageNewImageModestwork is a dublin based design agency that is making some beautiful furniture. The Loft chair shown above (top) was featured at designboom stockholm earlier this year, and it's easy to see why. It is minimal, and beautiful. The jury is out as to just how comfortable it would be, but new concept (bottom) seems to address that better. Either way, I'm keeping my eye on Modestwork and expecting good things from them.

Studio Dunn :: Tessie Chair

studio dunn tessie chairtessie Studio Dunn has been a long time favorite here at GRM, and we've talked about some of their great stuff here and here in the past.  I'm excited to announce that they have some great new products that are just coming fresh out of the shop. My favorite of them is the Tessie chair shown above. As always, the line are absolutely gorgeous, and I especially love the organic scandinavian inspired lines where one piece of wood meets another. Check out the detail shot after the jump.

Kirsty Whyte

kirsty whyte drew tableLast week I received an email from UK based designer Kirsty Whyte sharing with me some of her great design work that has recently gone into production. One of my favorites of the bunch is the Drew Collection shown above, which is currently available through Modus.

twist table

She also has some really great scandinavian influenced pieces that were recently picked up by Heals (how have I never heard of Heals before?). Both the Twist table and the Walnut Candlestick are fantastic.

Limpet Wall hooks

Last, but not least, she has a clever little Limpet hook that is on Made.com. Vote for it now and it could also go into production.

A huge congrats to Kirsty on all her recent success and well deserved recognition.

MDRD Social Networks Table

MDRD TableMDRD table sideAnyone who has looked at my Pinterest board lately will know that I am thoroughly  obsessed with long wooden tables. While I tend to lean more towards liking the more rustic farm table look, it's the legs on this MDRD designed "Social Networks" table that blew me away. The concept is desicribed the following way;

“Theplatform is communicating through a fast network with the world, just like youand I do right now.”

Honestly I think that's pretty hokey, but hey, whatever you need to come up with in your mind to justify that rocking leg is good for me.

Glimpt

glimpt sideboardWorld traveling Swedish design duo Glimpt pretty much have it nailed when it comes to gorgeous, tool free knock down furniture. The sideboard shown above has milled grooves underneath for easy mounting of the wire supports. Details like the graceful arc on the legs and the wooden drawer glides make this simple sideboard really work, and the yellow pop of color makes it oh so Scandilicious. Yes. Scandilicious. Like Scandinavian + Delicious.

Jory Brigham Furniture

I look at a lot of furniture online. A lot. So when something stands out among the crowd, thats saying something, especially considering that amount of quality modern furniture that is coming out of boutique shops these days. What caught my eye about Jory's work is how fresh it is. He manages to walk the line of being different, but without looking like he's trying to hard.

Eat Play Grow

eat play growNewImageThe Eat Play Grow table by Ruth Vatcher is designed to educate children on how to grow produce.

The concept of the table is that the trough at the back of the table allows the children to grow food in a water tight container. They can then use the watering pot as a tool to sustain the produce. Additionally, the felt provides storage of necessary tools beneath the table.

Honestly, after reading that and looking at the table, I still have no idea how it works. But I am pretty sure that I want one for my kids so I can educate them that felt, oak and white ceramics are three winning ingredients to one drop dead sexy table.

Truck Furniture

truck furnitureLately I seem to be finding good things in pairs. Yesterday I found the fantastic furniture of Smart Woodhouse, a Chinese design firm full of soulful modern designs, and today I find another asian firm with a beautiful portfolio of work. Truck Furniture is a Japanese design group that shares my view on furniture design.

We design the kind of furniture we want ourselves, regardless of fashion
We respect the properties of the materials―wood, leather, steel―we use and never pursue novelty for its own sake.
We create furniture that can be used for a long time.
