Up until yesterday if you would have asked me where to get good mid century modern tile, I would have said Heath Ceramics was the only place. But that was yesterday. Now I've got my eye on Clayhaus. They may be the new kid on the block, but they have a very strong line up of modern tiles. The influence of early modernists is apparent in everything from their Bauhaus inspired name down to their fantastic color palette. Icing on the cake for me is the fact that it is all done by a small husband wife team. I love supporting the little guys.

I love this retro-styled option from The Company Store especially, never mind the fact that it's available in 11 colors. Bring on the breeze!

What better way to start a Monday than with two sets of minimalist blocks from across the pond. The top photo shows Russian made Geo Blocks, which includes a set of 7 wooden blocks painted white. 7 too many for you? The how about the Swiss designed Designomat blocks. Comprising of only 3 blocks, they can be rearranged to form endless shapes.

When it comes to modern garden accessories (well, everything MINUS planters), it seems the pickings are pretty slim. So, I was pretty pleased to spot Terra Trellis, an offshoot of California-based TerraSculpture Studio. Their collection offers re-imagined, modern versions of classic garden structures, including trellises, arbors, and tuteurs. The hand-welded steel pieces are also available in 7 contemporary colors and finishes, from aubergine to oxide, white to kumquat orange. With such beautiful craftsmanship, I'd consider these less accessories and more pieces of functional art!

This shelframe just shot right to the top of my list of "why didn't I think of that" ideas. About:
The shelves are designed to occupy a space normally reserved for a framed picture or painting, and they act so as to frame compositions of everyday objects.
The cable tension allow the shelves to support heavy objects while the silicone pads create a self-securing system that grips the wall as the shelf becomes loaded. This also means that the shelf does not tilt to one side if heavy objects are placed unevenly.
I especially appreciate the smaller details of the shelf like the semi recessed balls on the ends of the cable, and the joinery between the sides. For the record, this shelf and a monkey hook would make for the quickest installation ever.

We've covered some cool Airstream remodels on GRM before, but never one quite like this. The Creative Capsule started its life as a normal Airstream trailer, but recently got completely gutted and refinished inside with one purpose in mind. Entertaining and teaching kids. Tenfour industries is using the space to teach children's craft projects and host birthday parties. They are making their inaugural appearance tonight at the Millcreek Community market from 4 to dusk.

Ahhh, it's my favorite time of year again! CB2 just unveiled a whole bunch of new products this week, including this mango wood and powder-coated iron number. The height is adjustable to allow for use as a counter or bar stool. In a perfect world, I'd love to see it available in more colors, but until then you can snatch it up in a bright, glossy red.
I spotted this magazine holder on Swissmiss the other day and just had to share it! Besides the fact that it made me smile, it's just plain good looking. Made from a single sheet of bent steel, the roof of this house functions as a bookmark while the interior keeps the rest of your magazines in order. Clever, eh? Available in red, white, or black.
Modern fifty is selling this original Volume 1 Number 2 Portfolio magazine for a cool $465. The premium price is because this fantastic cover was designed by Charles Eames and the issue also has an article about Eames and his house in the Palisades. While to me it's not worth the price, I do always enjoy seeing the graphic design that Charles did.
Does anyone know if there is a place online that has a large collection of Charles's art work?
I know it's hard to even thing about hot drinks when temperatures are creeping into the triple digits, but this Tea Kettle by NORM Architects is just to sexy to pass up. The clear glass design has equal parts scandinavian and asian flare to it. The built in stainless steel tea ball is attached with a silicone tether and sits up out of the way when it's all done brewing. Maybe we can harness some of that sun to make sun tea?

We're currently in the process of completing a guest room, but if I had to start all over again I might consider this clever take on a Murphy bed. What appears to be a basic office desk "magically" transforms into a twin-sized bunk bed with minimal effort. Pretty snazzy, eh? What do you guys think? Is this something you'd consider in your home?
I'm really liking the raw modern simplicity of this table from Recycled Brooklyn. Made of scrap wood and angle iron, the table is finished of with a handsome pair of hairpin legs. The result is a simple, honest table. Recycled Brooklyn can do custom sizes if you have a particular spot in mind you are buying for, or if you are handy I'm thinking this would make a pretty easy DIY project.
