I spotted these colorful travel bowls recently on (my favorite dog-related blog) Dog Milk and had to share! The concept is pretty brilliant: the base is a spill resistant bowl for water, the lid a snug-fitting bowl for food (that keeps everything leak-free). On top of that, there is a lid for the food bowl that can also function as a third bowl in a pinch. Like I said, brilliant.
This Monday I had the opportunity to walk through one of my favorite mid century modern homes in Salt Lake City. Designed and built in 1965 by one of Salt Lake City's more prolific modern architects Ed Drier, the home has heavy Miesian influence. The exterior roof line is defined by a massive steel H beam that is contrasted by a white tile soffit that continues into the home. The continuance of surfaces is actually one of my favorite aspects to the home. Everywhere you look flooring, walls and ceiling materials seamless cross the indoor outdoor plane. This is made possible through a significant amount of glazing and careful attention to detail. Considering the amount of glass in the place I expected it to be a huge energy hog, like some of the other MCM glass and steel houses in the area, but I was pleasantly surprised to find just one furnace in the basement. The fact that it has a pool and close to a half acre sitting on the side of a ravine makes this house ideal for me. Unfortunately the $800,000 price means it's about 4 times out of my price range. I propose 3 other people go in on it with me. First pool party is on me.
I'm a sucker for a pretty picture, and these product shots from Ciaffi look amazing. It's not just a pretty picture though, for $8 you get 12 handmade small envelopes with a small folded card packaged in a mini corrugated box. Is it just me, or does that seem like a really good deal?
I love, love, love this wooden mobile from Snug Studio, an Etsy shop based out of Hanover, Germany. These colorful birds are very Charley Harper-esque, don't you think?
I can honestly say that I'm usually not that impressed by "digital art". Not saying that it can't be good, I just haven't seen anything amazing. Until now.

Best Made Company always has a wonderfully curated collection of home goods and I'm especially fond of this extension cord. Every other extension cord I have ever bought before I have wanted to tuck behind some furniture, but this is one that I would be proud to have strung across the room.
While $34 for a quality cloth covered extension cord seems pretty reasonable to me, real frugal shoppers should check out the post I did on DIY Vintage Cage lights. Sundial Wire has the exact same wire for $1.25 a foot. Grandbrass also has some great plugs for under $3.00. A little handywork and you could get it done for under $20. Someone do it and report back to the group.
A bit like a swing for your plants, these hanging A-frame planters from Poketo are surely unique. Made from Ipe wood and "deadstock military cotton strapping", these planters would look great indoors or out (if you're luck enough to have a porch)!

I'm a sucker for some good marketing and great packaging, which is why it should come as no surprise that I'm quite smitten with SEI Drinking water.

The bottle shape, inspired by the military canteen, is designed around the principle of portability and utilization of space while maintaining a subtle harmony of form and function. The bottle is useful and fashionable; and the taste of SEI natural spring water is pure and crisp.
What are 'handmade paper effects'? Anything from pushpins to greeting cards, paper cut art to envelope stickers - all created by Etsy seller LBC Paper. I'm particularly fond of her geometric pieces and those colorful pushpins pictured above (bottom right)!
Anyone who has looked at my Pinterest board lately will know that I am thoroughly obsessed with long wooden tables. While I tend to lean more towards liking the more rustic farm table look, it's the legs on this MDRD designed "Social Networks" table that blew me away. The concept is desicribed the following way;
“Theplatform is communicating through a fast network with the world, just like youand I do right now.”
Honestly I think that's pretty hokey, but hey, whatever you need to come up with in your mind to justify that rocking leg is good for me.
This self described "color nerdery" quilt strikes a core with my inner color nerd. All the colors were hand mixed for just the right effect, and then the quilts are machine quilted. The flip side is a nice light gray that accents the quilting thread (detail pic after the jump). Having worked on a couple quilting projects over the years, I know how much work goes into these things. With that in mind, I'm going to call this thing a bargain at $400.
Original artwork for less than $100 seems like a pretty dang good deal to me, especially when it's as cool as these abstract paintings from Flatfile. My favorite pieces are from the Color Blocks series (pictured above), but check out all the available pieces right here.
World traveling Swedish design duo Glimpt pretty much have it nailed when it comes to gorgeous, tool free knock down furniture. The sideboard shown above has milled grooves underneath for easy mounting of the wire supports. Details like the graceful arc on the legs and the wooden drawer glides make this simple sideboard really work, and the yellow pop of color makes it oh so Scandilicious. Yes. Scandilicious. Like Scandinavian + Delicious.
I blame it on Capree really. Yesterday over on MAIYA she posted about the Grandpa Henry collection, a series of bright wool plaids that looks amazing as upholstery. I of course wanted it, but it didn't seem like the right fit for a downtown loft. A mountain cabin on the other hand...
Thus began my search for a small affordable prefab cabin that I will inevitably have to build, just for the purpose of having a Grandpa Henry chair to sit in. After a little poking around I came across the Signal Shed shown above. A 130 square foot prefab shelter that was designed for the budget minded. Sunset magazine did a story about it recently thats worth reading. The above photo's came from owner Ryan Lingards website.
The Vita Vase collection by Brooklyn-based designer Michiko Shimada is inspired by the various forms found within the human body. I don't know about you, but that stomach-y looking one is kinda sexy.
Proving you just can't get too much of a good thing, I've got another great round of furniture that has that wonderful combination of powder coated steel and wood. This time it is coming at you from Los Angeles based firm Knibb Design. Founder Sean Knibb is one of those amazing guys that does a little of everything from landscape design to furniture design and he has an impressive portfolio to back it up.
I look at a lot of furniture online. A lot. So when something stands out among the crowd, thats saying something, especially considering that amount of quality modern furniture that is coming out of boutique shops these days. What caught my eye about Jory's work is how fresh it is. He manages to walk the line of being different, but without looking like he's trying to hard.
Liesl Pfeffer is a photo-media artist based out of Melbourne, Australia. I love all of her work, but I'm particularly fond of her Souvenir series, which "uses the tropes of travel photography to explore the concept of photographic truth". Also, I live in Utah so I'm kind of a sucker for mountains.
The Eat Play Grow table by Ruth Vatcher is designed to educate children on how to grow produce.
The concept of the table is that the trough at the back of the table allows the children to grow food in a water tight container. They can then use the watering pot as a tool to sustain the produce. Additionally, the felt provides storage of necessary tools beneath the table.
Honestly, after reading that and looking at the table, I still have no idea how it works. But I am pretty sure that I want one for my kids so I can educate them that felt, oak and white ceramics are three winning ingredients to one drop dead sexy table.
