DIRTT and Architecture

I mentioned earlier this week that DuPont™ Corian® sponsored a trip back to Chicago to look at some new things they are doing with DIRTT. While I was fairly familiar with Corian, I had never heard of DIRTT before. Put basically, DIRTT is a modular wall system that can be used in interior spaces. Because it is modular, it can be reconfigured in the future if needed. The big news was that you can now get it with Corian panels. I have a bit of a design crush on Corian lately, so for me this union translated to some really nice looking spaces. Check out my DIRTT photoset on flickr for some eye candy.

I also had a chance to do an architectural river tour and snapped some pictures of the city. You can see those photos HERE. If the trip doesn't sound amazing enough yet, I haven't even touched on NeoCon. I'm still sorting through those photos. Icing on the cake? The crew I was hanging out with was the best, and I'd like to give a shout out to fellow bloggers from Dwell, Core77, DsgnWrld, and Talkitect. I had a fantastic time hanging out with all of you.
Every now and then, West Elm has some decent MCM/Scandinavian-inspired furniture, so when I took a look at their Fall sneak peek, I was happy to see this little number. The Dumont Buffet has some enviable lines and a white/wood/metal combo that's irresistible. Add to that loads of storage space and this is one piece you'll definitely want to consider!

Remember screensavers? It's been years since I have thought about changing mine from the Apple default, but I'm happy to announce that I just installed this fantastic little app from Stefan Trifan. "
Low tech, low tech indeed. This light is made from recycled cardboard and FSC certified paper, but its real appeal is its matchbox form: open or close to modulate the light! You can even place it on any of its sides, on the floor, on the table, or hang it on the wall. Sweet.
I ended up on a sort of last minute whirlwind trip to Chicago over the weekend too look at some new things

My kids are growing up fast, and are quickly approaching bunk bed age. I'm loving this playful custom modern bunk bed designed by Finnish design firm
The perfect little pitcher for an outdoor fête, if I do say so myself. Made of melamine, so it won't break... you know, in case your party turns into one of THOSE parties. Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about.

Jackpot!
Looks like for once all the hype turned out to be true, Fab.com is coming out of the gates strong. Their opening has not only great prices on Emeco 111 chairs ($175) and Glaser prints, but they have also managed to pull in some pretty rare or hard to get items as well, such as the limited edition Emeco 125 chair, and the Plumen bulbs that have been pretty much unavailable stateside up to now.
Obviously, what I like most about this task lamp is the sweet pop of color around the rim. A simple DIY idea for sprucing up a similar (and cheaper) light, perhaps? What do you think?
I'm not going to lie. I just really like the word "foundry". Borough is also a nice word too now that I think of it.

'Noted' is a clever, if not completely playful, twist on the standard memo/chalk board. Made from aluminum, it features a peeled corner to hold chalk (and add a pop of color). Designed by Joe Wentworth.
