Ikea for your iPhone

Could it be true? Two of my favorite things combined? Starting today Ikea has officially released a free iPhone catalogue app that lets you browse the latest catalogue on your phone. The 35mb app lets you zoom in on pictures and flip through the pages so you can get your fix on the go. Just make sure you are connected to WiFi when you download it.Cake Group, the developer of the app plans on making improvements in the future, I just hope a US version isn't far behind.

Modern Christmas tree

200912020138.jpg

Every year I am on the hunt for a good modern contemporary looking Christmas tree, and every year I end up giving up and just going with a traditional fresh cut tree. While I will likely do the same again this year, I am rather smitten with these bottle brush tree's from CB2. While I don't think they could replace a traditional tree for me, if you're cramped for space set on getting a minimal looking tree, this may be your ticket.

Available from CB2 for $39 - $79.

Let us know in the comments what you plan on doing for a tree this year!

Even the packaging is eco-friendly: recycled (and recyclable) cardstock in a biodegradable bag. Currently available in 10 different color schemes.

Reader homes: 1088 Churchill

200911302336.jpg

Every once in a while some of my readers write in and share their projects with me. Unfortunately I don't usually do too good of a job sharing these projects with the rest of my readers. I'm looking to change that though, and I'm starting it off with 1088 Churchhill. This new blog is documenting the restoration of a 2 story mid century home. Just seeing some of the early progress photo's brings back some fond memories of past projects.

The owners of 1088 also had a great question that I thought I would put out to the readers...

Is there a "network" or sorts to join to get renovation ideas for our mid-century home? Any help is appreciated!

I'd love to hear any recommendations in the comments. Also, if you have or know of an interesting home project, drop us a line.

Up In The Air Somewhere

1.png

I love this series of ceramic drinkware from Up In The Air Somewhere. The Dip Cups are quite lovely and unique - each earthenware vessel is hand-dipped in yellow rubber after being glazed in either a light grey or white glaze. Each piece from Up In The Air Somewhere is hand built and totally unique - a perfect gift this holiday season!

About:
Up in the Air Somewhere is Chicago-based artist and designer Susan Dwyer. Three years after graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she focused in sculpture, Dwyer began creating a line of ceramic and papier-mâché vessels inspired by the clean, minimal lines found in industrial architecture. Because they are individually hand-built without the use of molds, every vessel has its own organic, one-of-a-kind character.

Drinkware available from Up In The Air Somewhere: $28 - $38

Utah Modern: Emmigration Canyon Remodel

200911300805.jpg

Here is a great home for sale that has been completely redone by my friend. The location is absolutely amazing, just three miles up Emmigration canyon, nice and secluded but still close to the city. It has been completely remodeled, taken down to the studs and built back up. The stark white interior and concrete floors make a beautiful contrast to the canyon setting.

It is currently listed for $392,000 by Mony Ty. You can see more photo's and information on Utahmodern.org. Let me know what you think!

Wooden Toys from The Wood Garden

1.png Wooden toys are so timeless, aren't they? I love these animal pulls and rattles from Etsy shop The Wood Garden. All of their toys are handcrafted from sustainably farmed hardwood trees. The husband and wife duo behind The Wood Garden began creating natural wood toys for their own children before turning it into a full time business. Be sure to check out more of their unique wooden toys - each handcrafted and finished with certified organic flax seed oil.

Wall Mounted Bike Rack

Spotted this cool, reclaimed wood bike rack on Etsy the other day and thought some of you DIYers would appreciate it. It seems simple enough for a moderately handy person to create, plus you'd have your choice of wood/finish to make it something truly remarkable. If you're not particularly handy, you can purchase this wall mounted bike rack from Cantilever and Press for $75.

Kid O Wooden toys

200911260826.jpg

I stumbled across Kid O toys today while looking for some Christmas ideas for our 7 month old daughter. I'm a huge fan of wooden toys, and I was stoked to find such a great variety. Kid O has a great assortment of timeless toys like colored blocks, and all sorts of different wooden sorting and stacking games. Pricing is a super cheap with the products shown above ranging from $15 - $65 but the reported quality is very good.

Modern Frozen Yogurt Shop

1.png

Yoli is Berlin's first frozen yogurt shop, and I must say I love its minimalist decor. It's refreshing to see such a clean and colorful space. I wish the many, many, many "fro yo" places in Utah looked a little more like this. I love how the whole shop is just bathed in natural light, too. So pretty. Are there any modern eateries, etc. in your area? Share some of your favorite local spots in the comments!

P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to all of our U.S. readers! Hope you all have a wonderfully modern holiday!

DIY pipe shelving

200911222226.jpg

I am in love with this DIY plumbing pipe shelving project from Brickhouse. We have a big white wall that has been begging for some shelving for a while, and this might just be the ticket. Made of off the shelf plumbing parts and some stained pine planks, this shelving unit makes a big statement without costing a lot of money. The fine folks at Brickhouse spent about $200 on the one shown here, and have been kind enough to share a complete list of all the parts and pieces that went into making it. Make sure you check out the before and after pictures to see what a dramatic effect it has on the room.
