A ship is safe in harbor
I don't know what I love more about this print, the great colors and patterns, or the William G. Shedd quote. Either way I'm pretty sure I need this print in my life.

I know it's hard to even thing about hot drinks when temperatures are creeping into the triple digits, but this Tea Kettle by NORM Architects is just to sexy to pass up. The clear glass design has equal parts scandinavian and asian flare to it. The built in stainless steel tea ball is attached with a silicone tether and sits up out of the way when it's all done brewing. Maybe we can harness some of that sun to make sun tea?
I'm really liking the raw modern simplicity of this table from Recycled Brooklyn. Made of scrap wood and angle iron, the table is finished of with a handsome pair of hairpin legs. The result is a simple, honest table. Recycled Brooklyn can do custom sizes if you have a particular spot in mind you are buying for, or if you are handy I'm thinking this would make a pretty easy DIY project.
With a reclaimed redwood face and a birch plywood body, these modern bird houses from Nathan Daniels are nothing short of, well, adorable! They're available in a whole slew of styles and color combos, so be sure to check out his Etsy shop for more!
I like watches a lot. Specifically, I like unique watches a lot, and I've gone though quite a few in my day. Next on my list of "must have" watches are these beauties by Void. Not only do they have a great layout with lots of interesting negative space, they have an epic material lineup to choose from, my two favorite being white ceramic and copper. I'm also really really liking the analog semi circle layout.
Last week I posted about the fabulous Patrick Hruby wall decal from Blik. If huge wall decals aren't your thing, but you are still looking for an excuse to get some of that colorful goodness into your life, may I present to you the Patrick Hruby memory game. Each box set contains 36 pairs of his wonderfully colorful illustrations.
Gitane workshop is a small Denver-based furniture studio founded by Scott Friedman. Scott is an architect, and it shows in the way each of the joints are carefully detailed on the Biscayne Bay Coffee Table shown above. His work has a nice mid century flair to it, and I'm a sucker for anything that is handmade. More detailed pics after the jump.

What do you do when you are an industrial designer with a love for affordable MCM style, and you are looking for an entertainment center? Design one, that's what. And that's exactly what Luke Zei did.
Since I purchased a LCD TV I have noticed the absence of MCM styled flat screen TV stand/ entertainment centers (and affordable ones). I tried re-purposing a credenza from the 50's but it was too tall. So I basically convinced myself there was a market and started off sketching. I drew influence from a some Edward Wormley and Jens Risom pieces.
The end result is this Willoughby TV stand which comes in a 42" or 60" size. Pricing is very affordable at $239 and $259 respectivley.

These glossy pendant lights would add a nice pop of color to any modern space! I especially love the contrasting knobs at the top (they're made of silicone and grip the light bulb directly). Genius.
Hang on Honey Light designed by Niels Bak Rasmussen for OiOi.
This bird house kit from designer Michael Oliveri is the perfect DIY/craft project for kids! They can paint, draw, or bedazzle to their heart's content - and when they're done, you'll have a one-of-a-kind bird house for all your feathered friends. Of course, you can always leave it in its natural plywood state if puff paint and glitter aren't your thing.

I love chairs. Really really love them. I could go on for hours as to why I am so fascinated about them, but I'll spare you all. I will however share one of the first things that catches my eye on a good chair, and that's a strong side profile. On that front Turkish design group Naif Tasarim is bang on with their mono chair shown above. The fact that it comes in a whole range of great colors is just icing on the cake.
We've written about a lot of bird houses and bird feeders on GRM but never a modern hummingbird feeder, that is until today. These stoneware feeders by J Schatz are handcrafted in a New York studio and come in six bright colors. I absolutely love the contrasting colors and the simple design. I'll take one in baby blue please.
I just found out about Poster Cabaret, and I'm completely open by all the great prints that they have. I'm particularly smitten by this lithograph print by Charlie Harper called Darwin's Finches.
Darwin's Finches on Poster Cabaret $50
I love, love, love these colorful filing cabinets from CB2, especially the new blue option. Although, I'm pretty sure I'd love them even more if a tiny dog came with every order!

OK, I'm ready to admit it. I think my "interest" in Nambu Tekki (Japanese Cast Iron) has officially moved into the realm of obsession. Even more curious is my particular interest in Nambu Tekki bottle openers. Please tell me I'm not alone in this. Is there a support group somewhere?

Solid oak, solid angles, solid style! And, if natural wood isn't your thing, a can of spray paint in your favorite hue may be just the ticket (or maybe just spots of color to highlight the angles..?).
I go back and forth as to whether I like wall decals, usually spending more time on the "don't like" side of things. And then I see something like this new Blik decal by Patrick Hruby. "Imaginary Castle" comes in a small 3' wide decal, or a large 6' decal shown above. The decal has a fantastic Eastern European design sensibility full of ornamental details, vibrant colors and onion-shaped domes. Also, according to the website it "goes great with matryoshka dolls and a bottle of vodka"
Part alarm clock, part iPhone dock, this handsome beech wood number from Jonas Damon certainly is clever. Extra bonus? The alarm clock app is free with purchase.

I love these illustrative style prints by London artist Clare Shields. The works are printed using fade resistant archival inks onto German Etching paper. They are limited to an edition of 30.
