Butter Dish

I’m known for my incredible pancake making skills. One of my secrets is that I pre-butter each pancake while it’s still on the griddle. That usually means fighting with a cold stick of butter to slice a chunk off. With that in mind I have been casually looking for a butter dish that isn’t shaped like a cow. This Terence Conran butter dish from Overstock.com is actually pretty decent looking. I like the $12 price as well. There is also a whale butter dish by Jonathan Adler that I am strangely attracted to. Unfortunately the $68 price tag and uncomfortable feeling I get thinking about scooping butter out of a whale probably rule that one out.

Does anyone else know of a decent looking butter dish?

I have two, one from crate and barrel and one even simpler (smaller lip) from the local grocery store (wegmans). Both are fine, but I often wonder if a french butter bell would be better.
also, if I need two sticks to serve, I turn a rectangular glass storage container with glass lid upside down.
similar to C&B refrigerator dish.
I’m partial to the super basic dish from Bee House Ceramics. I like white, though it comes in several colors. I also like that is has a slot for the knife (included). I just saw them at the Blue Cockatoo, and I know Spoons n Spice and Sur la Table also have them: http://www.surlatable.com/product/tabletop+&+serving/serving+pieces/butter+dishes+&+crocks/butter+dish+with+knife.do?search=basic&keyword=gratin+dish&sortby=gsa&page=1
This one from habitat is also nice: http://www.habitat.co.uk/fcp/product/browse/Butter-dish/993865
And Blomus makes one in stainless: http://www.puremodern.com/Kitchen-Bath/Kitchen-Accessories/Butter-Dish
oh how I covet the habitat dish now.
I usually store my butter in a plastic dish w/ plastic wrap over the top — not the most ideal situation. I had never been able to find anything permanent…until now! I just ordered the Bee House Ceramics in white — love the simple square look and the included stainless knife. Thanks Creede for raising the issue and April for the link! BTW: I’m known to make a mean set of harvest apple pancakes every once and a while!
Thanks everyone for the comments and links! Especially April.
I also like this one from DWR; we just purchased the exact same one from a local market except ours says “BEURRE” on top instead.

My favorite butter dish involves an old radar dish, orange peels, and a sponge. Like McGiver I rotate the dish 40 degrees east towards the sun while sprinkling the orange peels over the sponge. As the water evaporates from the sponge, butter is formed, or, as the Russians say, сыр (they have no butter).
