Dwell Studio 2010

10Feb10

Dwell Studio was one of the first big players in the modern bedding industry. I remember looking at the strong geometric prints on some of their first duvets and being totally in love. Since it was my first love, I want to still like their products, but this preview of the spring 2010 collection has me wondering. Even some of their 2009 line is a little too much for me.

Comment below. Has Dwell Studio lost their touch, or am I just not hip enough to see how great they are?

Angela Adams Pillows

05Feb10

I have a mild obsession with Angela Adams, so it’s exciting to see her designs in a (relatively) more affordable textile form. I’ve been saving up for one of her wool rugs, but for now I may have to just pick up a pillow or two. These linen pillows are hand-printed and sewn in Maine. Available in two sizes: 12×22 and 18×18.

Angela Adams pillows: $85

Envelop

I only recently discovered Envelop, a print-on-demand textile shop where designers can “create, promote and sell high quality cotton items to textile lovers worldwide”. The idea is brilliant and the designs absolutely unique. They have an incredible collection of textiles, from pillow covers to oven mitts. You can also browse by designer if you have a favorite (mine is KEROZEN – his stuff is amazing). So, go check it out and see for yourself! I’d love to hear what some of your favorite designs (or designers) are!

Designer textiles from Envelop: $19.49 – $37.49

Filz Felt Ornaments

I recently admitted to my obsession for all things felt. With that in mind, you can imagine my delight when I came across these fantastic felt Christmas ornaments by Filz. Available in a myriad of wonderful colors each ornament set comes with two 3.5″ x 3.5″ ornaments and a grey satin ribbon to hang them by. My personal favorites are the Schneeflocke ornaments (top right).

Available from Filz for $10.

Elan Form Chilewich case

Everyone that knows me knows that I am completely helpless without my iPhone. So why not splurge a little on this amazing little piece of technology and give it a little fashion update.

Impact resistant polycarbonate iPhone® covers are the result of a unique collaboration between Sandy Chilewich and Griffin Technology. Chilewich’s signature mini basketweave vinyl textile is adhered to the two piece Griffin EasyDock™ design. These covers provide access to all controls and ports, and allow quick docking without removing the case.

I love the carbon fiber/tweed look of them. The $40 is a little expensive, but maybe I’ll buy one for my iPhone for Christmas.

Available from Apple or the MoMA Store for $40.

Bantie fabrics and wallpaper

05Oct09

I love the simple yet bold scandinavian designs, and Bantie has some wonderful ones.

The Swedish company Bantie was founded in 2007 by Ulrika Gyllstad och Wilhelmina Wiese. The name comes from Ulrika’s favourite aunt Bantie who used to have a shop selling exquisite fabrics and exclusive lingerie.

For those handy with a sewing machine, the Scandinavian design center has cotton satin fabric available starting at just over $60 a meter. While that may not be cheap, it could be worth it if you are looking for just the right fabric. For those less handy in the sewing dept, cushion covers are available starting at $65.
Available from Scandinavian Design Center $65 – $85.

I know, I know. MORE DISH TOWELS! What can I say? I can’t get enough. If you’re like me, then you’ll love To Dry For, an online shop devoted entirely to tea towels. Say it with me: “It’s my turn to dry!”

Fancy schmancy tea towels from To Dry For: £4.50 – £11.50

Modern Fiber Lab

My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw these felt throws from Modern Fiber Lab. Just look at those textures!! Reading about how they’re made is even more mind blowing. These are truly art pieces and worth every penny, in my opinion.

About:
This “felt pelt” is wet felted by hand using traditional ancient techniques. This is made with natural colored cotswold, lincoln longwool, merino wool and mohair. I source the fleece from shepherds which I receive raw right after shearing. I clean, comb, and card the wool and then using hot water and organic soaps, felt by hand the wool fibers into one large piece.

These felt pieces are inspired by actual hides from a trip to Scandinavia where I saw sheep and animal skins everywhere. The technique or “recipes” to make them are drawn from Mongolian felt traditions. Mongolians stomp on the wool and roll the soft felt around tree trunks that they drag from horses to strengthen and finish the felt. I felt outside using my hands and bare feet and then roll the wool around poles to finish the felting process.

This pelt has been further embellished with pom poms that are made from kid mohair and lace weight wool yarn from a co-op in Uruguay. I whip stitched a boiled wool fabric to the back of the pelt to further strengthen and finish it.

This pelt would make a wonderful wall hanging or could be used as a throw or even a rug. A truly sustainable and renewable resourced piece!

Available in several natural colors.

Felt throws from Modern Fiber Lab: $295 – $600

Tikoli

I have to admit the dishtowels I have are pretty ugly and not at all my style. (Hey, they were gifted to me by nice little ladies when I got married. I’m certainly not complaining about the ‘free’ factor!) But, I really, really think it’s time to get some modern kitchen towels that fit my taste and personality. If I had it my way, I’d get every single one from Tikoli. Their kitchen towels are bright, colorful, and downright awesome. My two favorite would have to be the Blok and Flax patterns, which, conveniently, match my color scheme. Sweet!

Kitchen towels from Tikoli: $10

Dwell Studio on GIlt

17Aug09

I was first tipped off about GIlt a month or so ago when they had some Jonathan Adler home stuff on their site. Eager to get some goodies at 50% off I signed up only to find all the good stuff was gone. Since then it has been a little hit and miss especially when it comes to the “home” category (lots of men’s and women’s fashion). Today however they have Dwell studio and Dwell kids items for around 50% off or retail. You better act quick though, the good deals go fast. I already got my Dwell finger puppets for $18!
