Six Mix Modular Cubes
These modular storage cubes are made from zBoard, a water-resistant, recycled paper product made from almost 99% post-consumer waste. Light weight, yet sturdy, each cube holds up to 50 lbs. The Six Mix storage system is available in six different colors to mix and match to your heart’s content: white, green, orange, espresso brown, and cedar wood. These would be perfect for a kid’s room, don’t you think?

New from Ikea
I can’t believe it’s almost time for new stuff to start showing up at Ikea. Here is a sneek peak of some of my favorite new items that will start showing up at your local Ikea starting in February. Some of these things will only be seasonal, but hopefully some will stick around for longer than that.

New versions of the classic POANG will include a Lounge chair ($229) and a swivel base ($89).

I wish there was a better picture of this SJOVIK table ($279) and buffet ($399). I love that the buffet has the same pattern as the Ikea PS rug. Both were designed by Eva Lilja Lowenhielm.

At only $129 the SVALBO solid wood table looks like an absolute steal. The sideboard table that matches will only set you back $79.

There are some great new lamps too from $13 – $59.
DIY pipe shelving

I am in love with this DIY plumbing pipe shelving project from Brickhouse. We have a big white wall that has been begging for some shelving for a while, and this might just be the ticket. Made of off the shelf plumbing parts and some stained pine planks, this shelving unit makes a big statement without costing a lot of money. The fine folks at Brickhouse spent about $200 on the one shown here, and have been kind enough to share a complete list of all the parts and pieces that went into making it. Make sure you check out the before and after pictures to see what a dramatic effect it has on the room.
Modernica’s Biggest Sale EVER

Holy smokes! Modernica is having a ginormous, one-time warehouse sale on Saturday, July 18th in celebration of their 20th anniversary. Nearly everything will be on sale – case study shelving, fiberglass shell chairs, even George Nelson lamps. This promises to be a big event, complete with DJs, clothing designers, antique dealers, etc. etc. If you’re not in California, you can still take advantage of select deals online from 7am – 7pm. I’m super stoked because I’ll actually be there that weekend! Granted it’s a family vacation, I’ll do whatever it takes to get to this event – even if it means ditching the fam at Disneyland and hitchhiking to LA.
What: Modernica 20th Anniversary Sale
Where: 7th & Alameda
When: Saturday, July 18
From: 10am – 4pm
Moduture

Moduture is an up-and-coming furniture design line headed by the talented husband and wife duo Brady and Charlotte Wilkinson. Charlotte will be unveiling her new collection at this week’s CA Boom Design Show, June 26 – 28. Though the collection is small (only three pieces so far), it is loaded with options: a bookcase with movable slats, a coffee table that transforms into a puzzle table, and a stackable cabinet with interchangeable covers! All her pieces are beautiful and have a certain timelessness that I think will appeal to a lot of different modern design lovers. If you’re in California this weekend, be sure to stop by and check out Moduture in person. As an added bonus, Charlotte is offering a discount code for CA Boom tickets: enter code “MOD” to receive $4 off your ticket price.

Fishbone Shelf

It’s been a while since I’ve come across some shelving that I actually thought was attractive and unique, but those were my exact thoughts when I saw these fishbone selves from Overstock. Usually when I find something I think is unique I find out from one of my more educated readers that it is really just a knock off of some piece I had never heard of. Has anyone seen this design before? The one review wasn’t super favorable about the quality of the piece, which might make it a bad choice considering the $280 price tag for the small shelf. Sure is purdy though…
MCM-Style Table from Bald Man Mod

I was browsing around Ol’ Etsyland when I spotted this lovely handmade, MCM-Style table from seller Bald Man Mod. It struck me as something wonderful, so I thought I’d share. Here’s what Baldy himself has to say about the table:
The bald man releases the beast! This is a freshly built mid century modern style table- it ain’t 50 years old, but has the same swank feel.
Here are the details:
27.5 inches long, with the table top tapering from 14 inches to 11.5 in width. Table itself is 11 inches tall plus the leg height. The inner cabinet is 9.5 inches deep, and the door is 11.5 inches long by 9.5 inches tall. The inner space is also 9.5 inches tall.

Made of 3/4 inch birch ply, with a nice dose of semigloss water based polycrylic. The door and inner wall are veneered with walnut and a hot racing stripe of maple. Used biscuit joinery to keep it together, and veneered with a vacuum press.
Customize the table by choosing leg style and height – hairpin or square tapered steel from 12″ to 18″. Legs are vintage, fresh from their original boxes. All tables are made to order.
Stephanie Choplin

Another up-and-coming designer with talent and vision! Stephanie Choplin is currently working towards a Masters Degree in Industrial Design from l’Ecole de Design Nantes Atlantique. The fresh-faced, 23-year-old already has an impressive portfolio with product designs ranging from dishwashers to tombstones. I’m particularly fond of her Tetris Potsand Wood Bulb pendant light. Check out her awesome shelving system as well – a set of 6 ‘blocks’ you can arrange however you like! If these projects are any indication, Stephanie definitely has a bright future ahead of her!

Way Basics

The idea of flat pack furniture can leave a bad taste in some peoples mouths. While I personally don’t mind grabbing my allen wrench and following some Swedish illustrations to get my furniture assembled there are some who like to keep it even more simple. Way Basics has taken flat pack furniture about as basic as possible. At the heart of their system is Z Board a super strength cardboard that forms the building block of all their furniture. Assembly is managed simply by peeling the backing of the sticky tape. Doesn’t get much easier than that. You can either purchase a preconfigured unit, or buy building blocks to design your own. The cubes are available in a bunch of different colors and prices start at a measly $20. Video of assembly and more pictures after the jump.
