With summer just around the corner, it can only mean one thing. New items from Ikea! Summer will be bringing some new seasonal items, as well as some updates to current lines. A lot of these things are already in stores, I know my wife picked up a set of the snazzy red barbecue tools already.

Some of my other favorites include the funky bold African inspired VILMIE collection of pillows, curtains, and throws. ($7 – $30)

A nice update to an old line is the new colors for the KARLSTAD sofa. I swear I don’t ever remember this little guy looking so good. I’m still on the fence about the leather version with the headrests though. ($499 – $899)

There are some great new colorful kids duvet sets as well. These things are just screaming summer. ($20)

So what is your favorite new item?

This Fridays “Way back when” is a film by Eames Demetrios on the history and the production of Charles & Ray Eames’ famous Aluminium Chair. I’m always fascinated to watch the actual design and manufacturing of furniture, and this video doesn’t disappoint.

Technically, these are folded greeting cards, but I think they’d look lovely in a simple frame and hung as prints! Drawn digitally and printed on 100% recycled, heavy weight card stock.

I have the kids Junior Panton chairs and would love some feedback on what table the ‘design inclined’ out there would team the chairs with. Seeking a working table. Somthing sizable enough to sit and draw at, yet looks fabulous with the Panton.

We’ve featured the gorgeous salvaged cardboard lights from Graypants, and the corrugated plastic city honeycomb lights. Now it looks like there is another contender throwing their hat in the ring. Shiner is the newest kid on the block, and while they make some amazing looking reclaimed cardboard lights, they do a lot more than that too.

Based out of Atlanta Shiner has a focus on modern eco friendly furnishings. In addition to lighting they have tables, chairs, even bowls. Pricing for cardboard lighting is sub $100 and seating is in the $300 range.

Furniture from Urban Outfitters seems too good to be true. Take this “Mid Century Sofa” for example. Great simple classic style and priced at a mere $480. The downside? It seems like any reviews I’ve read in the past have been pretty unfavorable as to the quality of the furniture. Also, I’m always sketched out by the thought of buying furniture that is only available online.
Anyone have any feedback about this sofa, or furniture from Urban outfitters in general?
