Form 3 DeCarli House

04Mar10

I have blogged about Form 3 before. Based out of Tomales California they design and build amazing homes and custom furniture. They just finished up a recent project that I thought was worth sharing. The home shown above is new construction, but they were able to reclaim 80% of the wood from the old home.

The interior is full of custom furniture in typical Form 3 style. I really love the contrast of concrete and wood that they use in a lot of their projects. This whole home was built for around $200 a square foot, which is not cheap but by California standards it’s not bad at all. More photo’s after the jump.

Kaiku

03Mar10

All I can say is WOW! Have you seen the new wagon and push toys from Kaiku? Made of bent plywood, natural rubber and steel the Kaiku line is simple and beautiful. The zen wagon makes me want to lock my stroller in the closet and start dragging my kids around in style. If the construction on these are as good as the design, these are almost a no brainer. Cost is reasonable considering there is really nothing else comparable.

Kaiku available from Design Public from $149 – $319

Shiner International

15Feb10

We’ve featured the gorgeous salvaged cardboard lights from Graypants, and the corrugated plastic city honeycomb lights. Now it looks like there is another contender throwing their hat in the ring. Shiner is the newest kid on the block, and while they make some amazing looking reclaimed cardboard lights, they do a lot more than that too.

Based out of Atlanta Shiner has a focus on modern eco friendly furnishings. In addition to lighting they have tables, chairs, even bowls. Pricing for cardboard lighting is sub $100 and seating is in the $300 range.

There is no better price than free, and that’s exactly how much you should be paying for scrap wood. No matter where you live, I guarantee that there is a nice supply of scrap wood somewhere not to far away. So go out and collect it all, and follow these directions from Instructables and you can have a amazing looking and nearly free table just like the one pictured above. Even if you don’t think your DIY skills are up to it, what’s the worst that can happen, messing up some free wood?

ScanWood Wooden Spoons

29Jan10

ScanWood is one of Denmark’s largest manufacturers of wooden kitchen utensils. Besides their beautiful products, I’m really quite enamored with their recent package re-design – a clever way of showing that their products are sustainable. I’m not sure if these are available for purchase online, but there are two stores in the U.S. which carry ScanWood utensils (one in Vermont and the other in Arkansas). Their catalog is worthy of a perusal, regardless.

I love these mini planters from London design team Thelermont Hupton. With an angled backside (oh my!), they’re positioned at just the right angle. A cluster on your wall would make a bold, but simple statement. Perfect for succulents. Made from steel and available in a range of colors.

Off The Wall Planter available from A+R Store: $22

1048 Lake Street

Here’s another great modern home for sale in Salt Lake City with some amazing interior elements and a great neighborhood. Located in the 9th and 9th area, this home was built with the environment in mind. It has an ICF foundation and SIP construction with R40 in the walls and an amazing R80 to top it off. It even has one of my favorite things, radiant heat. The price tag is set at $685,000 which is a little steep for my blood, but for all the green construction that has gone into this thing it’s probably a good deal. Wooden toys are so timeless, aren’t they? I love these animal pulls and rattles from Etsy shop The Wood Garden. All of their toys are handcrafted from sustainably farmed hardwood trees. The husband and wife duo behind The Wood Garden began creating natural wood toys for their own children before turning it into a full time business. Be sure to check out more of their unique wooden toys – each handcrafted and finished with certified organic flax seed oil.
