Fab :: Becky Hui Chan prints

becky hui chan geometric shapes printI was discussing with a friend the other day how Fab.com conitinues to absolutely kill the competition discount online sites. They still have hands down the best curated selection of goodies for the home out there. Point in case is todays collection of fantastic prints by the talented Becky Hui Chan. I'm especially a fan of the Geometric Shapes print shown above, and at only $17, it's practically irresistible. Design Story

design storyI know, I know. Your inbox is already bursting at the seams from all the "members only" discount home accessories stores. I've signed up for more than I can count, and have been working on weeding out the good and bad. All of them have similarly good pricing, the difference is how well curated they are. With that in mind, I have to share the latest great one that I have been loving. Design Story has one of the best collections I've found so far, with almost everything on the sight finding a place on my wishlist. It helps too that they have a whole section curated by Julie Carlson of Remodelista.

Gilt :: Areaware & Alessi

200910260726.jpg

I've mentioned GIlt before, and even though I don't usually get too wrapped up in discount designer websites I continue to find myself quite smitten with GIlt. While it started out as a mostly women's site with a couple of home items, it has had some nice additions as of late. The Gilt website now has a mens specific section as well as a travel section. In addition, they have a great iPhone app that will even remind you when sales are starting and let you purchase straight from the app. Speaking of sales, starting today they have some Areaware goodies on sale, and later in the week some Alessi. I've also got my eye on the Adiadas Consortium and Timbuk2 goodies. As always, GIlt is for members only. Sign up here.

Lexan sale

200909300725.jpg

I've always been a fan of the simplistic style of Lexan products, and I have been tempted to buy some things like the tykho radio in the past. The only thing that has stopped me is that the pricing seemed just barely out of the affordable range. Because Lexan is scaling back it's line of product Unica Home has some great deals on Lexan items. Discounts are from 30% - 40% off which brings the tykho radio down to $32! Now that's what I call affordable, now the only question is do I want blue or green?

YLighting warehouse sale

200909170801.jpg

While most things at YLighting aren't exactly what I would consider "affordable", they do have some beautiful stuff. If you've had your eye on a certain little something over there, wishing you could get a better deal on it, you may be in luck. Starting tomorrow YLighting is having their first ever warehouse sale. With savings up to 80% off such brands as Flos, Artemide, Vibia, and Luceplan you may just score some sweet new lighting for a great price. If you do, be sure to let us know what you got in the comments. The sale will run through October 2nd.

Modern Economy

modeconomy.png

No, not THAT economy. Sheesh.  Modern Economy is an online shopping "event" where indie designers can unload overstocked goods and people like you and me can score said goods for up to 80% off. Not bad, eh? The next event starts at 9am on Wednesday, September 9th and goes for 48 hours. And just who are these participating "indie designers" you ask? Oh, people like Ferm Living, Offi, and Perch to name a few. So mark your calendars and get ready to score some amazing deals. You really won't want to miss this event - it only happens once a year!!

For a complete list of participating designers, click here.

More about Modern Economy:
It's truly a win-win situation for indie businesses and consumers alike; designers get to earn back their investment and budget-minded design enthusiasts are able to furnish their lifestyle with the wares they crave while maintaining the sanity of their pocketbooks. And lately, Modern Economy sales have been described as a sustainable business practice (we like that!) as we often sell products that designers may otherwise discard: items with minor faults like ceramics with an uneven glaze, or a pillow with a misplaced label.

Modern Economy is produced by the Mateo Ilasco company, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We typically hold two sales a year in places like San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Portland, Oregon. We also started hosting virtual sample sales in 2008 and will continue to do that at least once a year. To stay in the loop, we recommend getting on our mailing list to be notified of the details of every sample sale.

Blu Dot's Annual 20% Off Sale!

BLUDOT.png

It's time again for Blu Dot's annual 20% off sale! Enjoy the savings for 20 days (seemingly arbitrary, but no one's complaining) August 20th through September 8th. If you've had your eye on a Real Good Chair, now's the time to get it for a steal!

About Blu Dot:
Our goal is to bring good design to as many people as possible. Which means creating products that are useful, affordable, and desirable. To make that happen, our design process is founded on collaboration. Not just among ourselves as we play show-and-tell with concepts, but a total collaboration between pencil and paper, materials and machines, even packaging and assembly. We like to think that the form is almost inevitable, a by-product of the process. Our job is simply to help it emerge as beautifully and as efficiently as possible.

Julep Rocker

CB2.png

When I first saw the Julep Rocker in the CB2 catalog earlier this year, I thought it was a beautiful specimen. The $150 price tag wasn't too bad either. Now as Summer is winding down, this outdoor looker is on sale at an even more amazing price - $100. If you've been meaning to get a few modern looking rocking chairs for the patio (or porch - do those still exist??) the Julep Rocker would be perfect! From the online reviews, it seems better suited for taller people - us shorties may have to slouch a bit to reach the ground. But, hey, that's life! Grey polymesh over grey, rust-resistant, powder coated aluminum.

Julep Rocker available from CB2 - $100

Dwell Studio on GIlt

200908171017.jpg

I was first tipped off about GIlt a month or so ago when they had some Jonathan Adler home stuff on their site. Eager to get some goodies at 50% off I signed up only to find all the good stuff was gone. Since then it has been a little hit and miss especially when it comes to the "home" category (lots of men's and women's fashion). Today however they have Dwell studio and Dwell kids items for around 50% off or retail. You better act quick though, the good deals go fast. I already got my Dwell finger puppets for $18!

Nena Von Pillows

200907090746.jpg

I never cease to be amazed by the talent that some people have. Etsy seems to have plenty of those talented people, and Nena Von is one of them. Nena makes wonderful decorative pillow covers using amazing Designer fabric such as, Romo, Osborne & Little, Fabricut, Ralph Lauren, Veranda, Michael Levine, Decorator's walk and many others. All her pillows covers look very high quality and include an envelope insert on the back which makes it easy to remove for cleaning. Prices are very reasonable with most covers running between $20 - $30 depending on the fabric. To make the deal even sweeter Nena has offered a 15% discount to all GRM readers. Just enter the code 101408roots at checkout.

Modernica's Biggest Sale EVER

modernica.jpg

Holy smokes!  Modernica is having a ginormous, one-time warehouse sale on Saturday, July 18th in celebration of their 20th anniversary. Nearly everything will be on sale - case study shelving, fiberglass shell chairs, even George Nelson lamps. This promises to be a big event, complete with DJs, clothing designers, antique dealers, etc. etc. If you're not in California, you can still take advantage of select deals online from 7am - 7pm. I'm super stoked because I'll actually be there that weekend! Granted it's a family vacation, I'll do whatever it takes to get to this event - even if it means ditching the fam at Disneyland and hitchhiking to LA.

Where: 7th & Alameda
When: Saturday, July 18
From: 10am – 4pm

Kalorik appliances

200907070726.jpg

Lately I have been finding all sorts of great stuff for sale through websites that typically specialize in fashion. First there was the Gilt groupe that had Areaware stuff for sale, now Haute Look has some great appliances for sale. Made by Kalorik, the line of appliances have a bit of retro look to them, but with a more modern contemporary flair. I was surprised by how complete the line of appliances was. They have everything from mixers to toasters to wine bottle coolers and all of them are for sale. The prices are quite reasonable considering the quality of the styling. For example the stainless steel and glass coffee pot above is $58, the blender $63 and the toaster $53. You have to sign up with Haute Look to be able to see the selection, but if all their deals are this good it may just be worth it.

Offi Lamps

200906290745.jpg

Eric Pfeiffer is one of my favorite designers. He always manages to design attractive and functional objects that aren't exorbitantly priced. The pricing on these lamps has just gotten a little bit better. The cupstack, vee and zig zag lamps are all hand blown and have a wonderful simple geometric styling. I noticed that over at Design Public they are on sale for $79 each (regular $99). Each lamp sits approximately one foot tall and when turned on has a nice soft glow. These little lamps could be just the thing to add the finishing touch to your room.
Available at Design Public for $79.

Delish Dish Sale from CB2

cb2.png

I'm a huge fan of CB2's dinnerware and am excited to learn that much of it is on sale right now for crazy-cheap! Appetizer plates for 95 cents, dinner plates for 3 bucks... it's nuts! I've been coveting the Lamina dinnerware ever since it showed up in their catalog a while ago. I've also been meaning to grab a few more settings of the Bubbles dinnerware to keep on hand in case any of the pieces I already have happen to break (which I doubt, because they're über sturdy, but you never know). So if you've been wanting to replace your old dishes, get a few backup pieces, or just like to have options, now's the time to grab some really high quality dinnerware for really affordable prices!

IKEA Seize the Days

IKEA.png

Every now and again IKEA hosts a "Seize the Days" event, where for one or two or three days only, some popular item is on sale for a ridiculously low price. This weekend, the ever popular POÄNG chair is on sale for a mere $40, over 50% off the original (and already scant) price tag. Not bad at all. Other highlights includeEXPEDIT bookcases for $50, RITVA curtains for $10, and free breakfast all weekend long. Sale starts Saturday, May 23rd and goes through Monday, May 25th. [The POÄNG chair deal is only good on Saturday, the 23rd]

Guilt Groupe

200905180719.jpg

200905180718.jpg

As if there weren't already enough scrumptiously addicting online sales I recently received an invite to Guilt Groupe. Guilt Group is "a private online community, providing members with access to coveted fashion and luxury lifestyle brands at sample sale prices." While they do have a strong emphasis on mens and womens fashion, what I am really excited about is the small but quality home section which has goodies with prices marked down as much as 70%. For example today at noon they have a bunch of stuff from Areaware that goes on sale. Everything is first come first serve but they are kind enough to let you know when certain things are going on sale so you can mark your calendar. If you want to check it out for yourself you can create an account through my invite page http://www.gilt.com/invite/creede It is invite only, but all members have unlimited invites. Plus if you invite a friend and they buy something you get at $25 credit. Not too shabby.

Please excuse me while I pay some bills...
