Glass tupperware

My wife is an amazing cook, and I almost always have good homemade food to take to work for lunch. I have been looking for some decent glass tupperware for a while now for a couple of reasons. First I worry about what sort of plastic grossness is being leached into my food every time I microwave it, and second I am getting tired of tupperware stained by tomato sauce. The big problem is that many of the glass food containers don’t have a tight seal, which would lead to a disaster in my bag. These Glasslock food containers from organize.com look like they might just do the trick. They have a silicone seal and snap locks to keep things were they belong, but are mostly made of glass.

Has anyone tried these? What do you put you leftovers in?

Available from Organize.com $6 – $12 each.

oooh, I might have to give those a try! I’ve been looking for the same kind of thing, but have been using the glad or ziploc containers in the meantime. besides the things that might be making their way into my food, I’d like to move away from treating petroleum as a throwaway resource.

PS, it looks like you can also get these at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. With their frequent 20% off coupons and buying in-store (vs. shipping) you could probably save a bit.

My friends recently picked up a bunch of those at Bed, Bath, & Beyond and they are great. They do seal tightly and work in the freezer!

My wife and I received an entire set of these for our wedding last year. They are MUCH better then Tupperware. They seal very tightly, and are much easier to clean. Our set came from Bed, Bath and Beyond. They come in a range of sizes. One warning however, don’t stack the bases into each other. The trim around the top (where the lid seals) is fairly thin glass. It is fairly breakable if you’re too rough with it. In fact, when we received the set from a friend, several of the pieces were already broken….when they bought them. BB&B gladly took them back. After a few months use, count us as satisfied customers.

Thanks for the tip. I have been looking for glass as well, and square shaped to boot! What a great find.

Pyrex makes a line of tupperware type containers with plastic lids that snap on. We have been quite pleased with them.

Thanks for the feedback! I was afraid everyone would think I was lame for posting about tupperware. Just goes to show good design has no bounds. I’ll check out BBB.

I am totally weirded out by microwaving plastic. I think these look awesome. We’re definitely a glass pyrex family, but you’re right on about the seals. Sadly, our son will never have the banging on tupperwear experience.

I picked these up at the Oriental Market at 7th and 7th the first time and they were awesome and I recently bought a 20 piece set at Costco for like $24 or maybe $28.

They are great and we use them to store the baby food we make with no worries about BPA when reheating.

I use these, they are airtight like you expect from Tupperwear (I’ve found not all the brands of things that look like Tupperwear are) and hold completely so I wouldn’t worry about your bag. Defiantly get these – I’m lucky my grocery store carries them, I’m picking up a few every trip lately!

I love some glass containers I purchased at IKEA. They have thin, removable silicone seals around the lids (I like to be able to remove them in case they get food underneath), and they stack beautifully. Unfortunately I can’t see them on the IKEA website, so they’ve either been discontinued or are just not listed online.
