Modern Wood Works

The debate about “designer inspired” pieces is one that has been around as long as good design has. What some people see as blatant knock offs others find are an affordable alternative to the real thing. I tend to be split on the issue. For example I didn’t mind saving a couple grand buying a knock off of Castiglioni Arco lamp, but something in me cringes at the thought of a fake Eames Lounge Chair. For those that are still on the fence and looking for some Eames Styled shelving, check out Modern Wood Works. They offer several different variations at reasonable prices.
Modern Wood Works Shelving $195 – $1,500+
Anyone have any experience or feedback on Modern Wood Works?

I’ve never dealt with this company, so I can’t say anything about the quality of the product. My inclination, upon closer inspection, is to think that these would not be terribly difficult for someone who is reasonably handy to copy. The only exception I can see are the dimpled plywood panels. It’s a matter of using parts of sufficient quality and finish.
Funny how your post was about this. This weekend I really struggled over buying a knock off of the Eero Saarinen Womb chair. I decided not to. I bought just a generic modern lounge chair that had some clean lines. So I guess I personally won’t buy a direct knock off.
I am not sure about this company but Modernica would be the way to go. Modernica actually produced these for Herman Miller and at one point owned the rights to the Eames storage units.
Oh, I agree with you on purchacing a knock off arco but cringing at the idea of a knock off 670 lounge.
