Fractal side chair

10Feb09

200902100739.jpg It’s been a while since I have been checking Overstock.com for good affordable modern furniture deals but a quick glance through their inventory today has convinced me that I might need to start checking a little more often. My favorite of the bunch are these black Fractal side chairs. For $142 you get a set of two powder coated black steel chairs that would be great for indoors or out. I’m always looking for good outdoor chairs that would hold up to the weather and this might be just the ticket. Anyone know if they are comfortable or not?

Available from Overstock.com for $142

Whoa! I didn’t know Overstock even had stuff like this. Le Corbusier replicas and other classic “interpretations”, yes. I will definitely have to start prowling Overstock a little more often. Great find!

I concider Overstock my dirty little secret…but since I blogged about this very chair a few weeks ago I guess I’m not very good at secrets!
I am always amazed at their wide ranging inventory!!

Sat in these at a coffee shop in Helsinki. Definitely looked good in person and makes for a nice outdoor chair. The shop stores them outside and have been back a few times over the last 2 years, they seem to be holding up well.

As for comfort, I found the back to be a bit too upright for my tastes. You also do feel the spaces/ bars after a little while so not really good for prolonged lounging.

I used to work for Overstock.com, their headquarters are here in Salt Lake. Does a purchase from them count as buying local? (probably not). Anyway, I saw this chair at Bukoos last weekend…it appeared sturdy and looked like it would hold up well outdoors, but it was not comfortable.

Is it possible that these are really Konstantin Grcic Chair Ones just knock-offs?? A friend of mine purchased Grcic chairs and they are stunning to see, not uncomfortable to sit in, and the fleshy parts of your butt ooze through the shapes making triangular flesh pads. Not to mention they have some hefty weight to them. If these are true Grcic’s, my friend would cry for what he spent.

I bought a pair of these knock-offs just before xmas and they arrived in a few days… They image on overstock does not show them as they are… First they have polished aluminum legs and the paint is glossy NOT satin… They did sit well, but after getting them I felt I would rather have the real deal… I shipped them back and they refunded my cash… LP
