Narrow houses like that can give you some excellent exposure, but this design doesn’t have any spaces lit from opposite sides, even though the front and back rooms (livingroom and bedroom) could have been designed with light from 3 sides. Oh well.

Heh, agreed. Total porn music. Not that I would know, of course, but I’ve been told…

If anything, perhaps we can look forward to cooler looking trailer parks in the future.

I agree with Chris. That said, this particular prototype was less than impressive – to me, anyway. I think it was the garish color scheme that I couldn’t really get over. [And that awesome music that accompanied the virtual tour! Bow-chicka-bow-bow!] In any event, I’m certainly rooting for more affordability in the prefab market. Perhaps Clayton Homes and their i-House will be the ones to break that barrier.

I’ll be interested to see what actual pricing turns out to be. As we all know, modern pre-fab housing has been, in all the examples I’ve seen, priced *significantly* higher than equivalent on-site stick builds. I always laugh/groan when I read these articles about these great, modern prefab homes, then I look at the price tag: $200-$300 per sq ft and beyond.

An article on Jetson Green from last September goes into the details on why prefab is not “affordable.”
