Affordable Modern Kitchen Entry: Simple, Modern, Functional

This second entry is very inspiring. Summer did an amazing job at opening up the space, and making it feel much larger. Here is how she describes her new kitchen;
Three simple words to describe my kitchen would be simple, modern, and functional. For the small space, I used white cabinets to make the space feel bright and open. Instead of using lower cabinets, I left the space open to also act as a dining table. An appliance garage allows me to hide my small kitchen appliances, yet they are still easily assessable. To make my kitchen affordable, I bought my cabinets from Ikea and priced shopped ebay and local stores for the appliances. I chose white appliances to blend in with the white high gloss cabinets. I lost a lot of storage without the upper and lower cabinets, so I added floating steel shelves to hold my dishes. It also allows me to give the kitchen a splash of color. My biggest expense was the laminate countertops. They would have been much cheaper if I chose not to add the apple plywood exposed edge, but I couldn’t resist! I have attached some before and after pictures.
Aprox cost $10,000
More pictures, plus some amazing before and after shots after the jump.

I’d like to know the story on their stair too. They went from a pretty ordinary open riser stair to a very cool single stringer.
Just curious. Is this condo located in Orange, CA? I’m nearly certain I recognize the floorplan…
WOW! What a great remodel! It’s very inspiring to see the before and after with this kitchen – and the rest of the space, too. That staircase is amazing. I’m excited to see more entries – keep them coming!
Summer is in Scottsdale, AZ. I agree the stairs are awesome!
supa, supa-cool! not bad on the price…was it a DIY, or pro job? Not to mention ripping out or laying wood over that tile could not have been cheap.
hmph. my comment i left yesterday apparently never posted. odd. anyway, what i said was something like, “wow! i really like this one. i especially dog the full wall of 1″ tile. because i consider myself pretty familiar with ikea’s cabinet options, i’m a little confused by the last cabinet against the wall at the end of the table/bar. it has lines down the side to match the drawers, but it has doors with handles around the corner from those lines. are the lines painted on? perhaps they are drawer fronts just attached to the side of a cabinet, which i think could work if you used the 24″ ikea cabinet for that one. i’m curious, so please feel free to enlighten me.
Very Nice. I just wish that I could have seen pictures of the deconstruction and the process of what how this came to be.
