Free Couch

Being the cheepskate that I am, free is one of my favorite words, and almost nothing is better than free furniture. That’s why I was excited to run across this little ditty the other day as I was riding my bike home from work. It has obviously seen better days, but I’m really pretty fond of the overall shape of it. It almost has that mid century wingback chair look to it. Of course it is a little worse for the wear, and it probably needs a good reupholstering. I have thought about doing it myself, but realistically I may be better off just taking it somewhere. I have a little trick up my sleeve for inexpensive material to use. I plan on getting a used wool blanket from a local army surplus. The color options are orange, (shown rolled up on the couch) white, grey and of course army green. I am leaning towards the grey.
Anyone know a cheap place to get it reupholstered here in Salt Lake City?

I vote for white or gray.
What a find! I love the shape and the back. It totally worth getting reupholstered. I got an amazing 50’s slipper chair at an auction once for $2. It had been in a basement and the upholstery was filthy and mildewed. I sanded and redid the legs myself and paid around $200 to get the chair reupholstered and it was SO worth it.

Killer find. I’d thought about doing the same with one of these swiss army blankets and having the red stripe run across the lower back of the chair: http://www.armynavydeals.com/asp/products_details.asp?ST=2&SKU=SWBLANKET

Seems like I saw something like that somewhere and it stuck in my head. Here in Seattle, if you want cheap upholstery, you go to Tacoma. This item will be so easy, maybe you can find someone in Spanish Fark to do it for you for 1/3 of SLC.

Man, I wish I could find stuff like this. Maybe I’m living in the wrong place.

One of the best finds I’ve ever seen!

    I’d go with tweed.

Liam, let me know what you find out from your buddy. I really don’t need another project right now.

Awesome find, riding to work pays off I guess.
Avid reader here… was wondering if you had any tips for finding the parts to remake a lampshade. I’ve got an arch lamp i picked up on craigslist and need to make a shade for it, am thinking a large drum shade like the cb2 lamp. I am having a hard time finding anyone who sells the right parts to make your own shade… any ideas?
