My first and best exposure to Eames was by living for one year in the fine house of Robert Blaich in East Grand Rapids when he and family took a business engagement for Herman Miller in Bern Switzerland in 1969. Blaich was director of design for an important period in the 60's and 70's.

The Blaich house was a beautiful gallery of excellent design and perfectly arranged Miller furniture. Alongside Warhol art and other excellent pieces, it was like living in a modern museum. Later I purchased an Eames lounge chair and ottoman. It is in Miller's rosewood veneer and black leather. I have followed the progress of Eames Demetrios in his quest to memorialize Charles and Ray Eames. Two great Americans.

Along with the Eames were the fabulous designers, teachers, and artists of the Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills. It was a glorious time in that great era of Detroit, Michigan that seems gone for ever. We'll see.
