Modernica 4th of July Sale

03Jul08

200807030738One of the best things about holidays (besides not having to go to work) are the sales. I just got word that Modernica will be having a 72 hour 4th of July sale on some of their Eames case study units. I am a huge fan of Modernica and all the original Eames pieces that they have. One of these days I might actually save my pennies and buy something from them.
Sale begins July 4th. Check it out.

Does anybody know of any other good 4th of July Sales?

these storage units are not “original” eames pieces. they’re high end knock offs, as modernica does not hold the license to the eames furniture. i think the only ‘real’ stuff they make is the nelson bubble lamps.

as per david’s comment: there’s a letter in the july/august dwell from eames demetrius about how modernica doesn’t have the original molds for the chairs and such. it’s worth reading…

Modernica manufactured the storage units for the Herman Miller company for well over a decade, applied the Herman Miller label and drop shipped to HM’s customer. Why were they any more “real” then than they are now? Due to a sticker? Poppycock. Modernica’s storage units look great, are well made, and are around 1/3rd less expensive. I don’t know about you, but I am not spending $500-$1,000 for a Herman Miller label.
