Selling a Dream?

We always said that we would never sell our house for another fixer upper, that we would hold out for that perfect lot and build on it. Unfortunately lots are far and few between in areas that I would want to live. With that in mind I occasionally watch for houses in good areas that could become another epic GRM remodel. This last week I think I found one. We now find ourselves in a sticky situation. Before we can even put a bid on the house we need to sell ours, but we don’t want to sell our unless we can get this new one. It’s really quite frustrating. I have a feeling that this new house will sell in the next couple of weeks, so I put our house up for sale on Craigslist and Zillow just to see if I would get any bites. If we don’t end up getting a full price offer in the next couple of weeks I imagine we will just end up staying here until we can find an affordable lot in a location we would want to live.
Any advice?

Bridge loan? If the house you want is a fixer I bet it won’t sell too fast but with your house being remodeled it probably will sell fast.

We just sold our house in Sugarhouse and bought something else so all I’ve done for the last few months was look at listings online. Good luck and keep us posted.

I feel your pain. I too am lusting after a house, but would need to sell my current home first. Best of luck with your decision!

Whatever your decision, you may want to re-think posting your home address on your blog.

make an offer on the new one, subject to the sale of your existing home. happens all the time. let me know if you want a realtor who will kick you back some of the commission # to help with remodeling expenses.

Selfishly, I hope you move. Your project posts are my favorite, and a new house means lots of new projects.

r, We tried the whole offer contingent on the sale of our house. They didn’t go for it unfortunately.

DavidM, I know exactly what you mean, the fun is in the pursuit!

I feel for you - it’s a sticky situation. We put an offer on a great MCM house close to our current (craftsman style) home….but we can’t sell our house. It’s so nice too! It’s a really really crappy market in lots of places. Hopefully, you’ll get an offer sooner than the owner of the other house does. good luck!

Related to waiting for the perfect lot…
As someone who has been engaged in this very activity for 3 years, I say get the fixer. The perfect lots were found 50 years ago, although I suppose anything is possible.
