DIY Candle Holder?
23Jan08

I often come across nice looking products online only to be shocked by the price. While the $45 that they are asking for this candle holder isn’t outrageous, I can’t ever imagine myself spending that kind of money on it. Looking at it though, I can see that this same idea would lend itself very well to a DIY approach. All it would take is a scrap of wood from Home Depot, or even an old cutting board from a thrift store, a hole saw, and some dark stain. Not only could you save some money, but it could be a fun project too.
For those looking to go the easy route, you can buy it at Hip and Zen for $45.

they have something like this at ikea, but with the tealights in a more regular pattern… still kinda zen:

oh my gosh, we made something almost just like this a few years back — it WAS really easy. My dad had a great piece of ebonized wood he gave me - a very thick solid piece about 1.5 or 2 inches thick. We didn’t even use a hole saw, just a big 1″ drill bit for our drill gun (or 1.5? however wide the tealights are). They drop right in the holes *perfectly*. I even made little feet for the bottom (to elevate it off the table ever so slightly) - by just slicing an old wine cork (plenty of those around our house) into 4 equal pieces and gluing them on.
Very nice! A good DIY project indeed.
