Portland End Table

16Jan08

200801160724I’ve always been a fan of Mid-Century Modern design. It was the classic designs of Charles and Ray Eames that made me fall in love. This Portland End Table by Adesso has a great MCM design to it. At $135 and free shipping the price is right too. It says that it is made of “MDF bentwood with walnut wood veneer” which leaves me a little nervous about the quality. Not that veneered MDF can’t be bad, I guess I’ve just never heard of anyone using bentwood MDF. Anyone have experience with Adesso products?

Available from Target Decor (a design store in NYC, not to be confused with the chain Target) for $135.

hmm, do you know if this is the same end table as the one at Urban Outfitters (which is $15 cheaper and also with free shipping).

This place will also stir some feelings with you: http://www.bassamfellows.com/

Although I am guessing the pricing will stir OTHER feelings… :)

I have the Adesso coffee table in my apartment. It’s one of my favorite pieces, and incredibly functional with the storage underneath - my coffee table books just beckon to be placed there. :) I purchased it from Urban Outfitters for $135 and for that price, I consider it to be very high quality as it’s quite sturdy as well. Really good buy.

The table itself is not bent MDF. The table core is MDF (top and bottom), and the rest is wood. I found this out when I received my coffee table smashed-on-delivery from one of Addesso’s distributors. Besides that, the matching end table I received was flawless and well built. On a side note, a replacement coffee table is being sent free-of-charge (and they can be found much cheaper than $135 if you shop around).
