Lucy Ave is Now Home!

We moved in about three weeks ago and now that we are in it has been hard to get the house tidy enough to take photos. I managed to get the kitchen and dining area in good enough shape to get some photos done, finally. The house is nearly all finished and things wrapped up pretty nicely. I will be asking for input in the future regarding some decorating decisions. We have been having a hard time getting our bathrooms completed with mirrors, medicine cabinets etc.
B274973Now that we are in and everything is settled we have many professionals to thank for getting everything finished. Kenner Kingston and Stephanie Kooyman with Architectural Nexus who are awesome to work with and incredible Architects. Garth, Mark, Jesse and Chris with Benchmark Modern for sticking with it and getting things done quickly and within budget. Drew Hicken with Celtic Bank kicked butt and got everything wrapped up with the mortgage. Greg and Al with Premier Metal works did an incredible job and made the stairs and railings beautiful and within budget! If anyone out there is looking for talented people to help them design, build and finance a home (or anything else) should consider these fine people. We were extremely lucky to find a very honest, reliable, talented and dedicated team to build our dream home.
More to come!

    Congratulations!

We just moved into our cookie cutter home and gosh do I wish we had a chance to design our own. Yours is awesome!

Wondering if I could get reader opinions about having concrete floors and children. Obviously concrete would hold up but is it a safety issue? We’re sourcing Marmoleum which seems to be a great product but it’s a bit out of our price range. I love the look of polished concrete but am afraid my toddler will take a dangerous tumble…

Having hard floors is a bit risky. Our kids rooms do have interface carpet tiles in them which softens them a little. We don’t really have the option of having padded carpet becaouse we have radiant heating in the floors. There have been a few spills and cries but nothing serious. Kids play outside all the time (on sidewalks etc) and don’t sustain any serious injuries. We have girls so we don’t have as much wrestling etc as we would if we had boys.
Build a house someday, it is a challenging and rewarding experience. Try to do it when you have a ton of money in the bank, there are a lot of hidden expenses. It is surprising how many expenses there are outside of actual construction.

Thanks for the great advice. I live in Hawai’i so radiant heating or heating in general is completely unnecessary. In fact, concrete floors would actually help to cool our home. Thanks for your advice. We’ll have to revisit the idea — both concrete floors and building our very own home. You’re an inspiration!

Jacob, the house looks fantastic! I love the colors and everything put together. It has been so neat to watch your home from ground breaking to now.

i’d love to know your paint color choices (they are very similar to what i have on my walls, but look a little more subtle – which is what i think mine needs). fantastic house!

Thank you for the recognition. Stephanie and I worked very hard and had a lot of fun doing it. Not many people get to experience the joy of having their ideas manifest in reality – thank you for making this happen.

    ctiare-

You should look into Flooring Services in SLC, talk to Marie. She does a lot of Marmoleum and the prices should be reasonable, not high at all. marmoleum is a great, all natural product we install a lot of.

    Good luck-

    Troy

    Hi.

House looks great. I was wondering if you would share the green paint color with me. It’s hard to find a good green.

    Thanks.

    Happy New Home.

    Michelle,

How old are your girls? I just painted my daughter’s room bella pink, and I’m worried it is too young for her– she’s almost 14. I’m trying to think of ways to make it a little more sophisticated. Do you have any ideas? Thanks!
