Ikea Tolga Bed

Piaimages 71354 Pe186739 S4When it comes to affordable modern design, there is no doubt that Ikea has some of the best deals around. Sometimes I’m amazed at just how affordable some of their stuff is. Take the Tolga bed frame for example. A decent looking bed frame, maybe a little on the rough side, but it’s only $35! You spend that much going out to dinner. I have seen it in person, and it looks pretty good. The one thing I wonder about is how sturdy it is?

Available from Ikea for $35.

What sizes does it come in? Twin, Full, Queen?

just a twin. it’s just a roll-up platform of slats, like on a futon frame. very simple, and it looks great in person. I kind of wish they’d made it out of slightly thicker gauge steel and charged $50 for it, though.

I was really thinking of getting two of these and hacking it to fit my fullsize bed, but when I looked at it in person at Ikea, there was some buckling going on in the metal. A real bummer, because it would’ve been a great bed for $70 a little ingenuity.

wouldn’t two twins equal a king?

I live in New Orleans and have to make a road trip to Houston to shop at IKEA. I would love to have 2 Tolga bed frames, but they always show no stock in Houston, and, as usual, IKEA doesn’t ship this item. Any suggestions? There must be a workaround to this problem!
