Lucy Ave - Finishing Touches
29Oct07

A lot got done Friday! We had plumbers and metal workers at the house all day long. They are both nearly done and will both be back on monday to finish up. Tuesday we have our final inspection. Premier Metal Works did an awesome job fabricating our railings for the stairs, porches and roof top patios. They have been working hard to get their job wrapped up in time for our final inspection. The guys at In-Line Plumbing worked all day today getting our finish plumbing done. We got all of our appliances installed today as well. We are very happy with the appliances we chose. We went with the Jenn Air “Pro Style” series. We were lucky to get a fantastic price on them. We would not have been able to afford them otherwise. Our kitchen is nearly done and it is turning out pretty much as planned. The Ikea cabinetry is the “Abstrakt” series. They are a high-gloss white finish. The blue pictured here is just a protective film that we will remove once construction is complete. We would not have stayed within budget without Ikea in town. Our total kitchen cost including appliances is under 10k! The house should be ready for us to move in by the end of next week!

I stumbled upon your blog and am loving what your house looks like! So jealous!!! I hope we can build like this one day!
Thanks for sharing it with everyone.
I’m really jealous too. This is turning out great. I love the stairs, and the green in the kitchen.
loooookin’ goooood!
I came across your blog a few weeks ago and have become a huge fan of your taste!! One (probably ) silly question - how do you manage to keep the costs for the kitchen so low? The Viking range alone should have set you back at least a couple of grand? I almost done with my kitchen (wish I knew of your site ahead of tiome:), but could use some guidance given you have a great taste - what woudl be a good backsplash for a kitchen wall ( I have Red Dragon countertop and Ikea medium brown cabinets). Any advise would be highly appreciated!

KG,
Exploit your connections! We got our appliances for a very good price with the help of some friends. Building a house within budget (or at least close) is all about networking.
We also spent very little on cabinets and countertops and we already had a good usable fridge. Our countertops are just laminate but a color that we really like. I also spent many, many hours putting it all together. I would do a warm-black subway tile or a more economical choice would be stainless steel panels from Ikea. I am not an interior designer
but we do have one as one of our architects and that is why we have good colors.
It is not our blog unfortunately, Creede just lets me send updates every so often.
sometimes when i look at your website, just chuckle to myself. i love what i see in your site and i love style… so why do i laugh? have a look at my kitchen which i redid in january of this year… http://ew2design.com/gallery.html … green paint, white abstrakt cabs, aluminum grey effect numerar countertop, even jenn air stove top and oven. a lot of similarities.
so here’s what i really want to know… i’ve been looking at cable rail for my stairwell and deck. every one that i’ve looked at is so expensive… one even quoted me 20k for the whole project. so where did you get the cable rail for your stairs? was it reasonably priced? i love how you mixed it with the wood beams. or are they metal beams?
Yes you’re kitchen is very similar, it looks great. We just had our steel contractor do it all. It was all included with the stairs. I am not sure what we paid for the cable exactly. I would just talk to a lot of different contractors/suppliers. The first bid we got for our stairs was more than double what we paid in the end. Call everyone you can.
