DIY Bentwood Lamp
23Oct07

I came across this great post about how to make a DIY bentwood lamp today at How 2 point oh. The whole project was done for around $30 as far as I can tell. You can read all the juicy detail on the original post, but the basics are like this;
Start with a piece of acrylic, use a heat gun to bend it into the shape that you want, get some glue on birch veneer and stick it on. Last add some LED lighting across the top, and you’re done!
Looks like a great little project.

I see so many cool projects that use stick on (or iron on) wood veneer…but does anyone have a good resouce as to where to buy the stuff? It’s not the kind of thing one picks up at home despot, so I’m assuming (since I live in a relatively remote and small town) I’d have to buy it online…
Very inspiring, I am definitely going to try a project with this method in the future! Just a response to the last comment, you should be able to find the veneer roles at most home centers including Home Depot, it is often used to recover plywood and MDF in many woodworking projects. Try to look for it around the painting or shelving areas.
HD’s round here used to sell Band-it brand iron on veneer in red oak and maple, but they’ve since stopped. Why? Beats me, maybe to make room for more appliances (grumble grumble).
