Lucy Ave - The list is getting shorter…

I put in some serious late night hours on monday night getting everything clean and today they started work on our flooring. It is a product called Miracote which is a polymer of some sort. This is poured over the gypcrete and becomes the final floor. We tried to choose a color that would look like the most like natural concrete. They are applying three coats total. This will give the interior of the home a nearly finished look. These photos show it as it is drying and the finished product will be much more consistent than what you see here.
As you can see we have functional stairs, finally! Stairs are so much better than ladders. For tread material we used o.s.b. that will get a sanding and a heavy varnish. Benchmark came and finished all of the cedar siding and it looks awesome. They also built our front and back porches and the driveway and sidewalks were poured. We are making great progress. We should be almost entirely finished next week and moving in shortly.

Did you procure your steel stringers locally? I am in the midst of trying to do the same thing, but having trouble finding someone in my area to fab them up. I appreciate any clues you can shoot my way. Thanks!

We used Premier Metal Works. They have been pretty good to work with but sometimes a little slow. They are pleasant to work with and open minded about
design. http://www.premiermw.com/ Greg and Al are usually quite accomodating.
Let’s see if they can get our railings done on time!

Will you be leaving the stairs open like that or do you need to put risers or some sort of divider in there? In St. Louis, they have stopped allowing open stairs unless the rise is less than 4″ or something like that. Those stairs are pretty much exactly what I wanted to do in our house. Since we’re holding off on the addition until summer ‘09 I have plenty of time now to think of alternatives.

    Take care,

Your house looks really great! I was wondering what the advantage of Miracote is, as opposed to just plain concrete floors?

David, Mostly it is a weight issue. Cement would have been our first choice. We have all wood framing and plywood subflooring which would not support the weight of real concrete. Therefpre gypcrete and Miracote became a good economical choice and it also works well as a radiant slab. We have no slabs on grade either.
