Let the painting begin

Saturday we called on family and friends to help us out a little with some painting. We had a great turnout, and got an amazing amount of work done. We managed to prime all the walls, and get at least two coats of Glidden Evermore Semi-Gloss on the walls. The bedroom and nursery got three coats, and late Saturday night we were able to set up our bed, and sleep in our new room. We used pure white base 1 paint everywhere, and I love the way it looks. The Glidden Evermore is a low VOC paint, and it was great to work with. It’s available at home depot for $20 a gallon. We bought it in the 5 Gallon buckets, and between primer and finish paint went through almost 18 gallons of paint in one day. A big thanks to everyone who showed up and made it possible, you are all amazing!

I am so happy that you were actually able to move into the master bedroom on Saturday. I hope you feel like you have really turned the corner on this project. It was fun helping and working with such great people.

It is starting to look like a place to live! I’m curious as to how the cement floors feel, are they cool this time of year?
Also what is the total length of your project so far?

It is finally starting to feel like a home instead of a construction zone, at least in the bedroom and nursery. The cement floors are very cool, and help to keep the whole place cool during the day. We love them. We broke ground in the end of January, so it has been about 3 1/2 months since then. There are still lots of little loose ends and a couple of big ones (siding) to tie up though.

Glidden Evermore??? I guess it’s alright for white, but if you ever want to go with a hard to cover color (red or burnt orange) pony up the $$$ for some Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams paint. The last time I used Glidden was for a red bathroom. Seven coats later, the coverage was still mediocre at best!
