Utah = affordable modern?

While Utah is no meca for modern design, we have seen a slow trend moving that direction in recent years. Something must be happening for Ikea to decide to build here. Besides my own project, I have quietly watched as other modern design projects pop up around the Salt Lake Valley. I have often wondered what their stories are and if they are as affordable as ours. Luckily this week Jacob, another Utah modernist, got in contact with me to share his modern infill project. It’s called Lucy Ave, and it’s a great story. Jacob was gracious enough to join the Grassrootsmodern team, and blog about his adventure. As his project evolves, you can track it by clicking on the Lucy Ave tag to the right. Welcome to the team Jacob and family!

    Dwell magazine featured a beautiful Utah modern home a couple years ago. I want to say the home was in Bryant Canyon or something like that? Anyway, you can look for it in Dwell’s archives. Utah design is, more or less, finally jumping on the modern band wagon…or should I say pioneer cart? Ha ha - no offense, I’m LDS!

    Yeah, it was a home up emmigration canyon that was featured. It was good to get Utah on the map, but the article was really annoying. The owner of the house asked up front for them to not focus on the Utah stereotypes, but it seems like that was pretty much what the writer did anyway.

    http://www.jespersendesign.com This was the owner and architect of the house. He actually started a website called http://utahmodern.com/ but it never really became anything. Just a picture of some sweet chairs, and a link to poliform and his design firm.

    Yeah, I noticed that about the article too. Can anyone not write about Utah without mentioning Mormons? It’s like really, do something new.
