The last sliding door
In an effort to speed things up a little bit, I had Benchmark Renovation come back last week to do a little more framing, and to install the last sliding door in the kitchen. It’s amazing what a difference the sliding glass door makes in the kitchen. It opens the whole room up, and really makes the old part of the house feel connected with the addition.
We also had them move the door into the kitchen over 18″ to better accommodate the new cabinetry. That pretty much finishes up any framing. Hopefully this week we will have the rough electrical done so that we can get it insulated next week. The little lady isn’t getting any less pregnant.

It must be nice to see things progressing. Are you going to break up some of that concrete in the courtyard and do some planting like you’ve talked about in the past or have you changed direction on that?
Hello-
I’ve been following your remodel progress for awhile with a slight bit of envy.
Curious why you didn’t keep the header heights consistent between the sliding doors and the windows that connect your addition to the main house? A consistency in the header heights would create a nice continuity between the house and addition.
Just a thought…
John
David, the courtyard will stay concrete. We plan on putting a table out there for summer meals. It will have grasses planted all the way around it though.
John, We originally had the header height the same. We swithced it up when that space (the connector) started to come together as a room inside. Just on the other side of those windows will be my desk where I spend a lot of time on the computer. If the windows were higher, it would be an awkward height to look out, and if they were taller the shape is a little more awkward. Basically we when we drew it up, we liked it better. All the other windows are at the same height as the sliders though.
Let me know if you would like some help with the landscaping!
Ornamental grasses are my passion………….
Flannie, we would be thrilled!
creede,
who is the manufacture of those windows and sliding doors, and are they aluminum or aluminum clad?
Kebo, They are a thermally broken aluminum window/door system from milgard.
