The walls are going up
Benchmark Renovation is in charge of doing all the framing and siding. Yesterday they had three guys at our house, and they started framing up all the walls. They pretty much got all the walls up except the connecting corridor. The picture above is from the corner of the patio looking at our bedroom. The big opening is where the 8′ slider goes. You can also see where all the windows will go to the right of the sliding door.
It’s really crazy to actually see it with walls up. No matter how good a drawing is, it’s hard to really visualize what the space is going to feel like.

Creede……now this is getting really exciting. I love the framing part because it is the first time you get to “feel” the space. It is funny that it “feels” smaller than you thought it would at this stage but seems to magically increase in volume when the drywall goes on. I’m planning to take a few days off to help with finish work and painting and siding. Maybe we could teach Seth (wadman) how to hold the end of a board?
It’s really exciting to see this coming together. The space will change once again when you start putting furniture in there.
Very exciting! I’m sure you can harly wait.
Maybe I can get one of those “parasitic” additions onto the side of my 5th story condo.

I supose that’s probably against HOA regulations (considering we’re not even allowed to put in new windows).
It’s great to see your place all coming together.
Whoa! For a while there, it was all “footings, concrete, blah blah blah” but all of a sudden there are walls and the house is really happening!!!
Let me know if you need a hand, I’ll put some time in
Chris
Thanks Chris. I may still give you a call. You should stop by sometime and check things out, or at least swing through the alley as you ride your bike by.
Dad, sounds like a plan. I will let you know when I could use some help. Maybe some of your finishing carpentry skills will wear off on me.
Hold the end of a board….. Shoot, maybe we could take your shinny head and use it to reflect some light into the space. Better yet, we can just hang you up in one of the window openings, your shirt can act as the nailing fin, and you will be the worlds first talking fenestration.
But seriously……come down and lets go to town on some gyp.bd madness.
Man, you guys are killing me
Thats some funny stuff.
I recall helping da put up a rather large board on a project he was working on some 20 years ago…gee it was an addition onto the back of his house. There were four of us helping to start with. By the time we placed the beam, there were only two of us (the two that were more than 6 feet tall) lifting the thing. We two tall guys were on each end and da was just supervising by that point. So wadman, be careful when da wants to get you to hold on to the end of anything!
Wadman, like Yoda, be he will, careful.
