An End to the Grill Conundrum

Product 044376 044376270100Just a couple of days ago, I posted about some grilling tools that were on sale over at the MoMA Store. I also asked if anyone knew of any affordable modern grills. Thanks to you guys, we had a lot of great comments. Some of the modern grills mentioned were:

  1. Fuego Grill
  2. A weird PC grill
  3. Eva Solo grill, which is now available in gas.

One idea that came up in the discussion was to just make my own grill similar to the clean lines of the Fuego. I looked around for a while to see where I could get some parts, and was a little discouraged. Then yesterday while I was at Lowes, I found the BBQ Grillware Stainless Steel Table Top Grill. Thats a whole lot of words for a simple little grill. It’s small, only 22 square inches, but is clean looking, and it will make a nice grill section for a custom base. Best of all, it was only $97, so I can actually afford it now, and enjoy some good grilled Salmon until I get around to making a base for it.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

BBQ Grillware Stainless Steel Table Top Grill available at Lowes for $97.

This looks like the same grill that some manufacturer made for crate & barrel a year or two ago. I ended up returning mine. Here’s the story:

I bought this grill thinking awesome for someone in a small dwelling like mine. The I started using it. This did not light up easy. The gauge didn’t go on properly. The temp settings were upside down. Now I called and complained and they said nothing was wrong. On top of thisthe canister was always frosting up. Really odd. So, I continued to use it despite the drip pan in it discoloring, after 3 uses. It was a pain to clean even though they had am innovavative food catch trough that slide out for cleaning. I constatntly cut my knuckles cleaning it. I felt like I was stuck with something that was all show and no go. I admit the fold up legs were sool as well.

After another attempt of asking Crate & Barrel if people had trouble with it, they said no. So over the winter I waited then a notice in the mail came. This notice was for a replacement part for the temperature gauge that I claimed was defective. This gave me and out. I returned to C&B and now am in search of a new grill. I sat this summer out using my reliable grill pan which I use quite often.

It looks like the manufacturer found Lowes as a buyer. Sure hope they corrected the problems they had. There is still room for the ultimate portable grill.

I just bought this grill for my motorhome. I have not used it yet. Have you made a table for it yet? If so, how did you make it work with a full size tank? I went to home depot and an auto parts store looking for the copper bits i need with no luck.

don, I still haven’t made a table for it yet. I have been using it quite a bit, and I still like it though. I still keep thinking I can find some better guts to use for when I make a table.

Some people complain about anything. Hey goofus’s it’s under$100. Discolors after 3 uses, cutting hands on drip pan you people blow me away, with IQ’s of 60. There is not a grill in the world that won’t discolor after use. It’s called using it. What color do you turn after 3 degree burns. No push button inginiter! Huh! I love my little grill I just need some parts for it. You bought a grill not a table to put it on. You guys need to get a job and get off the computer.

We bought a similar portable grill at Lowes for around $50 as we have to bring in our grill at our cabin due to bears. This little grill has more than lived up to our expectations. It is by BBQ Grillware also, but is model GAT-1913 – you can search Lowes website under “tabletop (no space) grill.” It cooked 4 baked potatoes in less than an hour!! Enjoy!

Bought this little grill to see how a stainless steel grill cooked. For $79 I figured I couldn’t go wrong, and was I right! After 2 years it’s still out-cooking anything I’ve owned before, and I’ve gone through some gas grills! I live in South Florida and cook year ’round on the grill. I thought it would last a season, then I’d get a bigger grill, but it’s like the “Eveready Bunny” of gas grills. It burned through the searing grid in one season, but I replaced that with a thicker piece of stainless steel and I was up and cooking in no time. Wish I had bought two of them when I had the chance. Lowes no longer sells these grills and I’m disappointed! If I had the second grill I’d mount them side-by-side on a stainless steel table, and never worry about owning a larger grill. I found this forum by looking for a second grill on google. Hope you guys enjoy your grill as much as I do mine. CLB

I bought the BBQ Grillware table top about 4 years ago. The shell is still in great shape but the flame retarding plate has long been gone and I just blew out the horseshoe shaped burner. I can not find any replacement parts for this type grill. Kenmore (Sears) makes a grill identical but when you call there parts department the grill model 122.16104800 is not even listed. Quite unusual for Sears. Anyone got any suggestions as it would be less expensive to put in a new flame control plate and burner than to buy a whole new grill. The grill has been just what we wanted as we travel and stay in our RV quite a bit.

I love the Eva Solo grill! I think there has been a lack of grill designs out there, but the aesthetics of this piece are so unique and different! I remember this grill received an award for “Best new product of 2005″. Gotta love the Germans! :)
