Liza, His name is Seth Striefel, although he would be totally ashamed of those renderings. They were very much just conceptual.

yes the architect did the 3d renders. They were in the very begining visualization stage, and were very rough. I think they show the concept well though.

The courtyard is a very nice touch - the horizontal cladding is quite striking and will break up the solid walls.

Is your architect doing the 3D renders?

David, thanks for the link, sorry it took so long to post, Everything with a link gets caught in moderation due to the high loads of spam I get. Awesome link though. I think the proportions will be about the same.

Chris, I don't know all the details yet, but you can be sure I will post them when I get that far. Definitely vertical not horizontal. I think you have to just not worry about fasteners on all edges. I don't think it's a manufacture approved install method. There is a long thread over at livemodern about hardipanel exterior, it's worth a read.

i currently have a stack of hardipanel in my driveway, and was planning on a similar application- a rainscreen wall in a horizontal pattern. but, hardi calls for solid framing along all edges, and my local code calls for these sheets to be applied vertically as well as fasteners being 6"o.c. along all edges. so, how are you treating your horizontal edges? you can't have horizontal furring strips in a rainscreen, right?
anyway, love your project, thanks for your time.

I too have been inspired by the Brazillian courtyards (not the ones that are all landscaped with 12x12 tiles or course). Saw a lot of them in Asia as well. Here's courtyard from one of the Toyota prefab houses that may inspire you as it does me.

The main reason for not putting a slider on the second bedroom is cost. A six foot aluminum slider is a little over a grand, it just didn't make sense for a kids bedroom. If we had the money though...

Love the plans - liked the earlier versions as well, but this is a lot more efficient. Although IF it were me, I'd add sliding glass doors onto the deck from the other bedroom as well.

Good luck!
