are you going to try to build up the floor, or somehow lower the high ground in  the middle? it seems to me that reconstructing the subfloor (maybe with some insulation in between) would be practical and green.

As for radiant heat, good luck. I lived with it for a few years in the UK, and always worried that my house would burn down while i was out. That and being woken up by crackling pipes in the night...</description>
