lightcouture and tejay

I know, I know, you are already completely overwhelmed with the number of design blogs out there. I feel your pain. That said, if you just can’t get enough, run on over to tejay’s backsplash, the blog backside to a new design firm called lightcouture. Not a whole lot of news about lightcouture yet, but we look forward to seeing what they can do in the future. About the blog, well they had some nice stuff too. I really loved Kai Linke’s felt dahlia, but unfortunately have no idea where to get it, or if I could even afford it.
Grassrootsmodern RSS Screensaver

I know that this will most likely appeal to a very limited number of you, but you should check it out. I went ahead and made an RSS Screen Saver for Grassrootsmodern. Yep you heard me right a RSS Screen Saver. For those of you that are not super techno-lingo suave (ie you non-geeks) RSS stands for Real Simple Syndicate and basically means a simplified version of a news page or blog. They are a great way to get your daily fix, and now a great way to protect your computer screen. Of course supper cool stuff like this is only available to Mac junkies, so you will have to have a Mac and be running OSX Tiger for it to work. If you are lucky enough to be one of the few that own a Mac, and have Tiger installed, just download this file here and put it in your screen savers folder (user/library/screensaver) and select it under system preferences, screen savers. Having done that you will now have a screen saver that automatically scrolls the newest blogs from the site. Pretty rad, and very geeky!
Get the Grassrootsmodern RSS Screensaver here.
EDIT: Sorry to those that tried downloading it, I had a broken link. It should work now, so let me know what you think.
Savannah Bedroom Set

Last week I featured the 4412 zen floor lamp from Under The Roof. This week were coming back strong with some more great deals from them. The Savannah Bedroom set includes a sleek black contemporary platform bed, an extra wide headboard, two side tables, and a double dresser with mirror. Thats basically all you need to go from no style to chic style for just over $1,400. Seems like a good deal to me. Oh and did I mention that shipping is free? Of course I admit that $1,400 is a lot of quid to drop on something you have never seen in person, so someone in VA go check it out in the store an let us know how the quality is.
Available from Under the Roof for $1,427
Leia Bell

A quick congrats to one of my favorite local funky pop artists Leia Bell. She has been doing posters for a local music venue Kilby Court for years, and has even done some shirts for her brothers band Weezer. This last month she had some of her work included in Print Magazine, which is a great honor. There is also an interview with her and pictures of some of her posters in a new book called “DIY: Design It Yourself”. If you are interested in getting into printmaking at all, make sure you check out the webpage for “DIY: Design It Yourself”, they have some great resources. Also check out Leia’s website for some great affordable funky posters featuring some really great indie bands.
Blu Dot 2D:3D Coat Rack
I don’t know what rock I was hiding under to miss the fact that on of my favorite companies Blu Dot is now making great sheet metal accessories like this 2D:3D coat rack. Leave it up to old Charlie Lazer to bring his funky style to metal with a collection of flat packed, brightly colored accessories. Besides the 2D:3D coat rack, they also have a nice magazine holder, letter holder, and various other metal trays for holding all your goodies. They all come flat, and all you have to do is bend along the perforations and presto, you have gone from 2D to 3D. Pretty clever, and very affordable. Best pricing I have found is over at Design Public (love those guys).
Available from Design Public for $55.
Plush Living
Its hard to find a good shower curtain to match the rest of your style, luckily Plush Living has a bunch of nice ones to meet any modernists style. All of their shower curtains are completely machine washable and lightweight. Plus they are affordable at only $36. They do have an online store, or you can contact them to see if someone local carries their stuff. Make sure you check out their other goods too. The have some great pillows, coasters, journals and wall art all featuring great graphic design patterns.

Lexington Avenue Creme Leather Lounging Chair

Here is one I couldn’t help but pass along from Better Living Through Design:
This is a pretty amazing sale on a leather lounge chair. The only thing to be aware of is that it arrives disassembled and you assemble it yourself.
$219 + free shipping
They even have a red one for $179. Way to go overstock!
Thanks BLTD!
4412 zen floor lamp
Good affordable floor lamps are hard to find, especially anything that involves teak. If you are into the whole Asian inspired modern look then the 4412 Zen Floor Lamp from Under the Roof is worth checking out. It stands 50″ tall and about 10″ wide, so its no shrimp. The frame is made of teak, and the lamp shades are pvc panels, which is a decent way to get the frosted glass look. It includes a foot step switch, and is only $79. Not a bad deal at all. If you want to avoid shipping charges, well then I hope you live in Virginia where their brick and mortar is.
Available from Under the Roof for $79
Futura 404

Starting the week off with a good affordable bed from Tema. If you haven’t heard of Tema I’m not too surprised. Started in the 80’s these guys are mostly stuck in the 90’s. They are a big company though, and ordering from them should be safe. A little searching on their site and I came across this Futura 404 bed. A simple metal framed bed, it pulls off a clean simple look. The cotton pillow catchers would have been a lot better if they were just birch panels, but for $399 you can’t complain too much. They do have some other items in their Futura collection (a night stand and a dressing mirror) but I would stick with the bed.
