Modern Wedding?

Do you have any suggestions on where to get decorating ideas for a modern wedding? The wedding will be in South Florida, in an Italian style courtyard. I am on a budget, but I still want to add some of my own style. Every bridal magazine I have come across is too traditional or froufy. I like to mix modern with beach/bohemian. I guess if you could compare it to a company it would be West Elm.
For the ceremony I wanted to incorporate a chic look with large white sheets of fabric up at the front, but I am not sure how. I need ideas for floral arrangements, table settings, etc. The colors I like are chocolate brown and spanish moss green or a celadon green. There will be at least 100 guests.

Any suggestions would be helpful. :)

I’ve got a couple of ideas, after the jump, but I though I would put it out to the masses to see if we could get some more.

For floral arrangements make sure you look into zinnia envy (pictured above), they are big, green and very cool. Maybe even do some displays with large glass containers full of cut limes, kiwi, etc in water to incorporate your colors (I’ll post an example later). If you have an Ikea close, check out their stuff, for accessories, not only will they look good for the wedding, but you can use them afterwards. Also make sure you check out the Jonathan Adler line at Bed Bath and Beyond for accents like napkins, placemats etc.

My suggestion… go hang out on the forums at http://www.indiebride.com for a while. There are a lot of modern and alternative ideas over there.

I absolutely love the lime idea! For centerpieces - a modern clear glass container of water with limes in it would be perfect!! You could do a mostly white table setting with charger plates in chocolate and green - or the napkins could be those colors if you can’t find affordable charger plates in those colors.

You could also look into adding those colors to your wedding gowns as well. Colored Sashes are a big hit right now, and you could have it done in the green or the brown. Then have the bridemaids in the same color, or the other color. You could even do the bridemaids in one color with a contrasting sash on their gowns. Custom dresses don;t have to be expensive either. At Chrys CRoss Bridal we have lots of gowns that we can customize, usually for free! (http://chryscrossbridal.com)

Another idea: instead of using the regular poofy tulle and ivys for around tables and things, see if you can find a white mesh type fabric, well more of a loose knit then a mesh, and use that instead. It kind of looks a bit like fishing nets, only more elegant and much less fruffy then tulle.

To incorporate large flowing white fabric at the front for the ceremony…
Ikea has a large wooden easel for $7 that could be draped with large white sheets for a very chic very affordable look. You could even display some black and white pics or balance a vase full of zinnia envy for a splash of color, surrounded in the flowing white fabric that would look perfect.
