Furni Allen Clock

Just a quick note. I got my Allen clock from furni the other day. It looks just as good in person as it does online. It did take a little tweaking to get it to hang perfectly straight, but it looks great on the wall. It looks like they have had a huge demand for their stuff, as most of it is currently out of stock. But feel free to pre-order some goods.

Don’t forget about the grassrootsmodern family discount!

Available from Furni onine store for $48.

Gleason Woodworking Studio

Gleason Table Chair

I have been sitting on this one for a long time because I wanted to make sure I did it justice. But I think the time has come. Gleason Woodworking Studio is a Salt Lake City based company that is bringing a touch of modern class custom woodworking. Strictly a one man show, craftsman/designer Chris Gleason has managed to design some wonderful products in the short 8 years he has been designing furniture. In fact his new line “New Modern Design” won some awards last year. Chris is sort of a mentor for me, and I am constantly amazed at his ability to merge great design and affordability. For those that are slightly handy, check out his new book “Building Real Furniture For Everyday Life” available from Amazon.com. If features 18 great projects that you can make in a day, most of which don’t require a bunch of tools either. Its a steal at only $15.74. If you are interested in purchasing something from the New Modern Design collection feel free to contact Chris, or send us a note, and we will pass it on.

Looking to add a little Andy Warhol style to your pad? Make sure you check out Hybrid Home. They have a plethora of pop art inspired pillows and prints for your home. These pillows are from their Secret Service collection. I love the whole retro colors meets silhouette look, and Hybrid Home does it well. The backs of the pillow are solid colors. They measure 18″ square and are available for $70 from Hybrid Home, or a store near you (if you are in California that is).

Available from Hybrid Home for $70.

OFFI Perch Lounge

Offiperch
There are pieces of modern furniture that are affordable, and then there are those that are not affordable, but cheaper than usual. The OFFI Perch Lounge chair is the latter. I would hardly call it affordable by my standards at $399, but it is a lot better than the normal $499 that Design Public has it listed at. I do admit though that I have a soft spot for this chair. Maybe it is the way it combines felt and bent plywood, two of my favorite elements. Maybe it is the little perch underneath it for which it is named, that reminds me of the old grade school chairs I grew up with. Whatever it is, I love it. If you are a fan as well, maybe now is your chance to get all that sweetness for a slightly less bitter price.

Available from Design Public for $399. Free shipping.

lumiere shelves

I came across these shelves a while ago at 33Modern, and I thought that they were a nice combination of shelving and lighting at a decent price. Made of satin steel it should be nice and sturdy, although I have never seen one in person. The top light box has white acrylic panel inserts that cast off a nice soft light. The shelf measures 20″ wide, 11″ deep and stands 72″ tall. Cost is $209 for the the wide shelf (shown) and $189 for a narrower (11″ square) shelf. Personally I would rather have satin steel than the crapy plastic wood veneer thats on my Target shelves any day.

Available from 33Modern for $209.

Kitchen Tape Timer

Here is another great affordable modern kitchen product from the MoMA Store. It’s called the Kitchen Tape Timer and was designed by Jozeph Forakis in 2004. Made of an aluminum block with a ring sticking out the top, this kitchen timer works by pulling out a tape, similar to a tape measure. It goes up to 60 min, and rings loudly when the time is up. Not only is this nifty little timer clever, its also very affordable at $18.

Available at MoMA Store for $18

Anyone need some nice mahogany?

22Mar06

MahoganyGRM reader Ann of Seattle wrote in asking:

Do you know of any interest in second-hand house trimmings? I’m about to remodel a 60’s house, would love for all those mahogany doors, frames, base boards etc. to go to a good home, not sure how to seek out a market … I’m in Seattle, a “hotbed” of re-use and reasonably fashion-forward, so there must be someone who wants my mahogany :-) It’s a matter of finding the community connections…

I am sure there are some great places, I would give The Re-Store a call, they might be able to help you, or at least point you in the right direction. Besides that look online or in your yellow pages for architectural salvage.
If anyone in the is interested, post in the comments, or contact us and we will forward your info to Ann.
