West Elm Spring Line
26Dec05
Well, it’s hardly a day after Christmas, and I noticed that West Elm is already advertising for their spring line. Didn’t winter just start? Oh well, some of their new stuff looks nice. This Low Platform Bed for example, seems to be a fairly good value. Priced between $499 and $649 this hardwood platform bed just screams modern with a japanese style. I personally love the simplistic modern furniture that shares its roots with much of the minimalistic asian design. This bed would be a great addition to anyone looking for a good clean look, although with it being as low as it is, I think that carpeted rooms are right out of the question. The bedside table shown in the picture is a nice match to the set, and sells for $129 each or $229 for a set of two.
Available here.

i have this bed and i absolutely love it! and it is the best design for the price. i would actually have paid more for it. i heard there was some bad reviews for west elm beds on apartment therapy, but this low platform bed has been no problem for me. i love it!
Good to know Vonney, its always good to hear a real world report on these. I read about the bad reviews they got, but it’s good to hear that you haven’t had any problems with yours. How is the build quality?
i didn’t assemble it myself, my fiance did, and he said it was super easy to assemble. it feels pretty solid. it’s really low to the ground, it feels pretty sturdy. i’m not very rough with my beds, so it’s been treating me very well too.
why do you say the low platform bed is out of the question for a carpeted room? what if the carpet is very tightly woven, low, and white?
Nassim, I guess you could pull it off it the carpet was a tight weave, low and white. The platform bed just has such a sharp nice detail, that it would be a shame to loose it with a flooring that was too busy. Each to his own though. What works for some, doesn’t for others.
Is it possible to take the slats out of this bed and rest the mattress directly on the floor, so it gives the matress a sunken effect?
uh2, I doubt it. The inner space where the slats are probably doesn’t correspond with any normal mattress size. Ask west elm though, and let us know.
