Leonhard Pfeifer Sushi Tray

30Nov05

200511300610-1200511300610
I have to admit, my wife and I have a serious weakness for sushi, so when I saw this new Sushi tray from Design Public, my knees about buckled. Composed of two separate wooden serving blocks that nestle inside a stainless steel cover this compact and totally complete little tray is all you need to serve sushi for two. It even has individual nooks for your chopsticks, and two carved out little bowls for your wasabi and soy sauce. Priced at $78 it is not exactly what I would call a screaming deal, but think of it this way; If you learn to make your own sushi, (which is not very hard, and loads of fun) the money you save by not going out to get your fix, will quickly pay this little beauty off.

Nest Peanut Step Stool

29Nov05

Store Images Products Fullsize P Img 02AHere is a product that is aimed at kids, but could probably come in handy for just about anyone in the family. The Peanut Step Stool from Nest is a good example of a simple concept that is well executed. A step stool does not have to be anything elaborate, just sturdy, and hopefully a bit attractive. This stool easily pulls off both of those, plus they threw in a handle to make it convenient to carry around. Perhaps the thing I like the most about Nest though is their philosophy, and commitment to green design. I applaud anyone who can make an attractive modern product out of sustainable resources all at a price that I can afford. This stool is available directly from Nest for $54.

Thomas Paul Pillows

While I am not typically a huge fan of Thomas Paul pillows, I am officially making an exception for these. Available in a couple different variations of the colors that you see above, these retro-esque pillows are just the thing to bring a little color into your crib. They are all 100% silk twill, which means that they will be just as much fun to touch as they are to look at. The fact that they are available in a variety of colors within a set makes it easy to mix it up a little without worrying if they work together or not. I am usually shocked by the price of a throw pillow, especially a silk one. I was a little surprised that these ones were as inexpensive as they were. Only $40 from 2modern. Shipping is free too!

Happy Thanksgiving!

24Nov05

I hope everybody enjoys their turkey or tofurkey as the case may be.

Here’s one for our loyal vegetarian/vegan fans, like Jessica. After lounging around around all day on thanksgiving, make sure you set aside some time to write a quick happy thanksgiving, or thank you for the feast note on your totally hip I HEART TOFURKEY cards from sidepony. These wonderful hand printed cards are made by Kimberly Robinson, straight out of LA. Make sure that you check out her website for lots of other great cards, and also baby tees.

NotNeutral Links

23Nov05

200511222027I have blogged before about notNeutral’s wonderful modern tableware. Well it look like they are back with a couple of new items just in time for for the holiday season. Unlike the brightly colored glasses I featured last time, these notneutral vases, that are part of the Links dinnerware set are surprisingly neutral. Thats not to say that they are bad. I actually like the nice simple brown graphics on white. The plates, cups etc are equally as nice, in a simple modern way. They are all fairly reasonably priced ($49 for a 5 piece place setting, which includes 1 plate, bowl, salad plate, saucer and cup), and available at Design Public.

KarrySafe Phone Pouch

22Nov05

Wcsstore Momatest Images L 58058I always check out MoMA to see if there are any new fantastic products that I can actually afford. Unfortunately there rarely are. I did however stumble across this KarrySafe Phone Pouch the other day, and was surprised to find it quite affordable. But what is it and why do I need it you ask? Well the designers over at Vexed Generation have a whole line of fashion products that are designed for high crime areas, where you need a little something extra to keep your goods safe. The KarrySafe Phone Pouch is designed to give you a place to carry your cell phone, where you don’t have to worry about someone snatching it from you. I thought it was a pretty novel idea. I bet your iPod would fit in there quite nicely as well.

Tripod Table Lamp

20Nov05

200511201920I was just perusing the Sale Section over at West Elm, and I came across this Tripod Table Lamp. The neutral fabric drum shades cast a nice light into any room, while it is nicely suspended on three bronze-finished iron bases. It’s simple shape is easy to incorporate into almost any decor. Personally I think that it is hard to have too many lamps. Best of all is the price, $19. Usually you can’t find a lamp even close to that cheap unless it is a paper shade.

Modern Union Yoga bags

17Nov05

Modern Union bags were created when yoga studio owners Stephanie Ofanankis and Belinda Osborne were unable to find a yoga bag that suited their modern tastes. They enrolled the help of exepert modern textile designers Inhabit Living. The result is a clean, attractive set of messanger style yoga bags. The are made of durable cordura, so they should hold up well to the wear and tear of the hard core yoga folk and they have all the pockets and straps you need for your yoga mat and blocks. They are currently available in four colors/prints. Personally I am torn between the Saffron and the Metro.
A special thanks to my wife for the referal!

Affordable Prefab from down under

16Nov05

Images 1Prefab has long since made big promises of bringing affordable design to the masses. With sites like Live ModernĀ® dedicated to affordable housing its obvious that there is definitely a huge client base just waiting. While us Americans may be a little slow to provide results, it looks like there may be some action from the land down under. Australian based PreBuilt has a new series of houses reportedly priced from $43,000 – $109,000 USD. Now thats more like it. You can see by the pictures after the jump, that the interiors are even well done. Seems like those Aussie’s have a way better sense for good design than we do anyways. Maybe we should just all move to Australia and live in a Prebuilt house.

Chroma Table

15Nov05

200511150757The Chroma Table is one of those great simple side tables that is easy to take for granted. Its simple, has clean lines, and is pretty darn cheap. For the price you can probably even afford to get one of each size (small $45 and large $65). Atop the chrome wire bases sit the laminate tops, available in Maple, Expresso, or Amber. My personal favorite of course is the Maple. The only place I have found that carries these is MXYPLYZYK which is a cool new store with some great products. They are online, and have a brick and mortar store in New York. Their site is all Flash, and a little slow, but I think its worth it.
